Was he just setting up too deep every time? They were always dropping in front of him by what seemed like a lot. I can respect him not wanting to field some of them but he was so far back he never gave himself a chance it seemed.

Thoughts? Insight?

Rugby style kicker hampered him a little, but I can name at least one time where he should have set his feet on the 10 yd line. Instead he was about the 2 or 3 yd line and way too deep.

That’s on the special teams coach. They should have moved him up. Not sure why they just kept him deep the entire game to let the ball bounce 20 yards.

I was proud of him for not taking any unnecessary chances and fielding some of those punts. A less mature freshman or even more experienced player might’ve tried to make an unnecessary play. We were so balanced on offense we didn’t need him to take any chances.

If he moves up he is just moving closer to the coverage and that doesn't help his chances of a return. They intentionally kicked away from him. Most teams probably will going forward.

He sets up where the coaches tell him to

CJH said in the locker room the Vandy punter had been booming them recently, he ended up kicking them short today and got some great bounces.

I would love to see a compilation of today’s punts. Sure seemed to me most, if not all, could have been caught.

Admittedly my eyes are getting old and the whiskey tasting sweet.

He used excellent judgement not trying to field any of those.
