Maybe I not being paying attention before, but this year I've noticed that the terminology has been changed from"Most Value Player" to "Most Outstanding Player" like Candice Parker or Torrene Green recently.

What brought this on and who decided this?????Just curious.

I blame it all on Billy Packer as the term "MOP" sounds most disgusting coming from his mouth.

As best as I can tell, the NCAA tournament has named a Most Outstanding Player (as opposed to Most Valuable) every year since 1940 (1939 and 1951 were "unofficial")

I was wondering this same thing. I'd never heard the term "MOP" until this weekend.

(Probably just wasn't paying attention to Packer, though.)

What I love about Packer's call of the NC game, was his unabashed effort to give the MOP award to Oden.

To me the MOP is the one with the best personal stats. The MVP would be the one who did the most to help the team when. The two are not always the same
