I was at that game. Incredible win. The pre-printed SI covers with Bo Jackson on them had to be destroyed and the new ones featured Tony Robinson as shown in this link. Great article in the Vault of SI.

Tony Robinson's four touchdown passes and Tennessee's - 10.07.85 - SI Vault

This was a great read. Gets me fired up for football. I am ready to put Tennessee back on the map.

When reading about Tony Robinson, I kept thinking I hope we get Jessee Scroggins and he turns out to be the next Tony Robinson. They are both about the same size, and apparently Scroggins has a strong arm and can scramble as well.

I started following the Vols in 1952. Jim Wade was tailback in the single wing. Tom Tracey was the fullback. I listened to every game on the a.m. radio. My first game to actually see live was Tennessee vs. Chattanooga in 1958. Chattanooga won 14-7. One of the best games I ever listened to was the 1956 game vs. Georgia Tech. Both teams were in the top 5. Tennessee won 6-0. Tommy Bronson (fullback) scored on a short run. Majors was the tailback. Tennessee was still in the single wing offense.

My parents had an awesome picture of Neyland called "First Night Game." It was a blimp or helicopter's overhead view of Penn State vs Tennessee in 1972, I think. Anyways, kind of weird, I was born in 1973, and we had just started playing night games.

I saw my first Tenn. game in 1956 and it was the UT-Alabama game and UT won 24-0. Johnny Majors was the tailback and he made All American that year. The teams record was 10-1-0 and won the SEC Championship. Their only loss was to Baylor in the Sugar Bowl. UT scored 275 points that year and gave up 88 and they ran the single wing which was smashmouth football. Even then the excitement before kickoff made the hair stand up on your neck and still does. What a thrill that was as a 12 year old kid.

I was looking at old photos on govolsxtra the other day and they were showing pics of old football players and games and I wanted to know if you could share some of your Tenn. Football memories ? I love hearing about days gone by when I was not alive , I was born in 75 so anything before that I would love to read them Thanks !

I remember the team riding farm tractors to get to practice and lifting bales of hay to get stronger ....... actually not that old, but I do remember bringing in the Tennessee flag on the back of a Tennessee Walking horse before the field went turf. That was a pretty site to see.
