What I remember is losing to Vandy in 64. I believe it was 7-0. Doug Dickies first year. I can't remember the radio stationed that carried it but it was from Nashville.

I was 13 at the time and remember hearing the game at my uncle's house. George Mooney was the TN broadcaster at the time, and he started the Vol navy. Geez I feel old.

. . .Been a UT fan since 1965 in the days of Dewey "Swamp Rat" Warren and Richmond Flowers! My first game at Neyland was in December, 1970 when they played Penn State and had a special day for the Majors family. Bobby was an All American DB and absolutely crushed the Nits with his punt returns and interceptions! PSU had been undefeated up until that game which the Vols won 32-11! PSU went on to whip Texas in the Cotton Bowl and I believe the Vols played Air Force. I may be wrong on that one!

My favorite Vols are Flowers, Holloway, Manning, and Fulmer.

Go Vols in 2009! :good!:

Do any of you remember the time when Tenn went to play Auburn at Auburn and they were also ranked #1,and The Auburn fans threw oranges at the Vols and we beat them 42-7 or something like that? Anyone remember the year?

Threw oranges? Sweet, free concession snacks, delivered straight to you. I wish more opposing fans were so considerate.

Yeah I was gonna say that Auburn game was either 79 or 80. I was at company picnic, playing touch football and kept checking UT score updates ... unbelievable.

I too started following Vols during Swamp Rat/Flowers days around 66. We had solid linebacking back then and clean-cut all-americans in the OL like center Bob Johnson.

One of my favorite players in early 70's was db Eddie Brown who made plays all over the field and lost teeth blocking a kick or punt.

I remember watching Eddie in high school. Played on a softball team in later years. He is a great guy, his father was a wonderful man, talked with him alot when I was a kid.Graet family. Eddie was a very quiet man, but played with a big heart!

Also my first game. Although it was 31-11 and it was played in 1971. I think I posted this last year but I was a huge 13 year old PSU fan at the time (my dad went to PSU during the Rosie Greer/Lenny Moore era) and he and my two brothers and I drove up from Hunstville for the game all decked out in PSU blue with banners and the whole deal. It was a tough experience at the time and a long ride home.

Now, I tell my dad how great it was that we kicked his butt in that game. Another related story is that the next year PSU played us in the opener in the first night game at Neyland. Story goes that it was to be a home and home but UT said no. Penn State called our bluff by saying they'd only come back if we played at night, knowing we did not have lights. So we said yes and put them in during the off season. Thus, we owe the wonderful night games all to Penn State. We won that game 28-21 in Condredge's (hometown hero from my childhood perspective) first game.

That's the best I can do.

 You were born exactly 30 years before me, and we both live in Chattanooga.

And a Tennesse legend is from right down the road in Rossville, Bobby Scott, and I'm proud to call him a friend. One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and has some hilarious stories when he and Archie Manning played for the NO Saints.
