How many of you have gotten the red ring of death and had to send your Xbox in for repair? I got mine about 2 months after it was released, so it's one of the earlier versions. Mine broke (again) last week and I had to send it in for repair. This is either the sixth or seventh time (I've literally lost count at this point) I've had to send it to get repaired, and Microsoft refuses to simply recognize that they can't fix it, and just send me a new one. I'm getting pretty frustrated, and was just wondering if most people have trouble with them at some point, or if I'm just really unlucky with the system I got.

Well I was in the same boat, and kept getting the crap back that originally failed. I ended up getting it repaired again, then I went to gamestop and traded it in on a 360 elite. I ended up having to pay a little bit of money, but I did this in March and have yet to have a problem......knock on wood.

First one died and I sent it in. Refurbed they sent back hasn't had a single problem.

Second one I bought for upstairs about a year ago hasn't had a single problem.

yeah, from what i've read, by the time they came out with the elite they had pretty much resolved whatever issues they had been having. after 6 times being repaired you would think they could simply send me a new one

A few reasons I got the elite... 1) I like the black... 2) guaranteed new heatsink design and 3) HDMI.

At that point they were also releasing Pros with HDMI and the new heatsink, but I wasn't interested in checking S/Ns.

Dont forget that the elite is not as loud, unlike the original which sounded like a F18 going to high power on a flight deck. I could never sneak and play late at night because the damn thing would always wake my wife................no problems now:)

I got mine in 06 & had it for close to 2 years before it died & haven't had any problems since I got it back.

There's always going to be a few bad eggs here & there.

Mine died twice...the second time I'm pretty confident they sent me a new one. No problems since. I still love it.

The xbox's purchased in the last year and a half or so use a different chip set than the older ones, called the "falcon chip set." It doesn't have as many issues of failure like previous chip set versions have had. One of the factors that can increase your chances of having problems that trigger a Red Ring of Death is putting your box somewhere without adequate ventilation. The 360 puts out a lot of heat in short order, and it needs to have access to the room on preferably two sides so air can fully circulate through it and around it. If you put it in an entertainment center, especially one closed while it is running like with a glass case or something, you are creating a situation that increases the odds of failure.

YES!!!! My Xbox got back today with a letter inside from Microsoft saying that they had decided to replace my console. Finally, after sending it in 6 times they got the message that they weren't going to get it fixed.

Maybe they just started sending letters? Maybe you got a refurb? Maybe you got a letter but didn't notice it? Maybe they just fixed your original console?
