Coming off back to back championship game appearances, one would expect a down year. UCONN is likely out of the tourney as well barring a Big East tourney run. Stevens is still a good coach.

Never said he wasn't. But from going to the Championship game to the NIT is crap. Same with Uconn. Uconn has tons of talent as well. Way too much to be sucking like they are now. I'm aware that their proven cheater coach has been sick.

I think CCM will prove compared to Bruce Pearl what Mike D'antoni has done with every NBA coach.

The run and gun offense is great in the regular season, it will win a lot of games as well. But come tournament time (or playoffs) with little rest in between, it just can't be done or counted on to win a championship. CCM knows this, and that's why he's got a strong half courted defensive minded team (although I do miss Bruce's impossible to stop in bounds defenses)

Martin teaches discipline in every phase of the game and that is a winning method of coaching. The players obviously have bought in and respect him. That should be exciting to all Vols fans.

It is exciting and I hope it continues. Time will tell.

On a national level, how big of a story would it be if we made the tournament?

It would be huge and I think its possible. How would you feel if you were coaching a team that has to face a lower ranked team that has gone on a winning rampage like we must continue to get in.:):):):):)

I don't think at first it'd be huge, but it'd grow rapidly.

IMO, we would be the hottest thing for media members as their upset picks. Many have said we play like a tournament team, we just have to get in.

I think if we get in you will see a lot of publicity for Tennessee, and in effect the whole story of last season to this season will be brought up.

IMO...it would be HUGE for Tennessee to make the tournament. Something Pastnet couldn't do in his first year the Memphis kids will notice!!!

Good point about the memphis kids. We need to keep the momentum going.

When CCM was hired the general reaction, myself included, was who the hell is this guy and will he have the chops to coach in the SEC?

you ask that as though the SEC is a feared, highly competitive basketball conference....

Let's see if Cuonzo can recruit or if Stokes is an anomaly. We know he can coach 'em up. If he can recruit, he will win.

Indeed. Great post!

Level headed basketball fans (non Bruce lovers / anti anything else) could see that if he practiced what he preached (which he has), that this would be a homerun. Defense wins championships and Martin understands that. I love his attitude and really believe Tennessee will be a feared defensive team when he gets to do more work and installs more of his system. Just like 'Cuse...everybody knows they'll see a zone everytime and they still can't do much with it. I love it!

Ouch...talk about a gut check. TBH, it was Martin that said the offense was very simplified and we'd see a more advanced version the next year. That never happened.

Well....this didn't work out.

Pretty sad too, because I remember the Vandy game talked about there being a ton of energy in TBA and a great win. I really thought it was a good sign of things to come.

Of course we crapped the bed the next week in the SECT.
