I know there is someone on here that can answer a question a couple of us are discussing here at work.

Reportedly Texas A&M have 34 commitments, I have not seen it myself just asking a question. Now if there is a cap of 25 how can you get more? If your roster is short say 5 or 6 spots can you sign extra kids? If you have to grey shirt a kid does that actually count to a signee?

thanks

Texas A&M and Missouri do not have the 25 limit this year, does apply next year.

If they have some mid-term enrollees, they count on last years number. Also there are some of these that they are pretty certain that they will not make it academically. The last option would be to "grey-shirt" some. The mid-term enrollees can count in either year.

Part of their welcoming package to the SEC was unlimited scholarships. Dooley's agent arranged it. Hamilton signed off on it.

Seems like a huge recruiting advantage for them. Already one of the best teams in the SEC, TAM is stacking up a huge class of studs. How is this fair to exempt them from the rules that apply to the rest of the conference?

NCAA hates the SEC OG's.

One problem with the idea that it was a deal the SEC gave them for joining is the 25 limit is a NCAA rule not SEC rule.

There are 2 rules, the 25 man rule, and the 85 man rule.

Early Entries count towards the previous years class, if there is room. And you have to have room from the last years class for a student to be an early enrolee.

If you signed 20 kids last year, and 6 were early enrolee's, then you can sign 25 this year+the 6 spots you filled early last year, as long as you stay under the 85 limit.

If you have no early enrolee slots open, you're limited to 25 kids.

Not the case with Texas A&M this year, they got a 1 year exemption from the SEC's 25 rule meaning that they can sign well over the limit and gray shirt players.

The NCAA rule is 28 players, and they don't get a waiver from that. They are counting back like 9-10 EE's to last years class.

I think the NCAA and SEC should give us a scholarship exemption to sign 35 this year based soley on our defense's lack of performance last season.

Anybody can grey-shirt players. The SEC can't loosen a rule that is an NCAA rule. The SEC does have some rules that are more strict than the NCAA such as the number of walk-ons you can have before school starts. The 2 rules on signing players is an NCAA rule.

I believe you are able to sign as many players as you want if your team has a Heisman winner on it.......tifwiw

A&M is very likely still under the NCAA limit of 28 commits instead of the SEC limit of 25. See below...looks like they might be able to go up to 37 players...as long as they have room under the 85 limit. If they are held to the SEC limit their class is pretty much full.

2012
19 Commits
28 Commit Limit
9 Commits Carried Over

2013 (Under NCAA 28 Limit + 9 Carried Over = 37 Spots)
Have 3 Open Spots

2013 (Under SEC 25 Limit + 9 Carried Over = 34 Spots)
Class is Full

I guess the powers that be were not expecting A&M to be that good!! How do you give that much of a competitive edge over the other schools. A&M wanted out because Texas hurt their feelings. Missouri just got lucky to even get in!! They should have been happy with just getting and even cut of the bowl pie!!

I could be wrong but I think you can have EE even if you maxed out the 25 or not they would count against the 25 for that year, I think!

The 25 is a hard limit, used to be 28, and it's a yearly limit. If you signed 19 players and none were EE, that means the next year you have room for 6 EE's.
