I have the older one as well, and it plays fine, but that may not be the case with yours. If your PS2 has stopped playin blue backed CDs all together.........
I read this on the internet, I havent tried it, but it's worth a shot
The blue backed CDs are CD-ROMs and much lighter then the other PS2 disks, which are DVD Cds, so it takes the motor more power to spin it faster so it will be able to read it, the faster it goes the more unstable it becomes and it might move a little inside the PS2, making it unreadable.
So take some scotch tape, and put four pieces on the top of the CD. Make a square around the hold in the middle, careful not to overlap them. This should give it enough weight for the CD to be able to settle down and be read correctly, Like a DVD.
If it still doesn't work, try turning your console vertically, along with using the tape trick.
If it doesnt work, no harm done to the system and you can take the tape off the CD.
Let me know if this works.
If you get it working and need a good butt kicking in NCAA, let me know haha
