Does anyone believe they will let Dormady throw many down field passes when he's in the game for mop up duty?

If his accuracy is better than Dobbs and he completed those down field passes with ease, it would make Dobbs look bad. Butch is not gonna let that happen.

I really believe we're not gonna see what he can do this year unless he's in the game because Dobbs is injured. Then it's all hands on deck.

Highly doubt it. In 6 complete blow outs last year, he threw a total of 22 passes. Most of those games were well out of hand in the 4th quarter. He should have been able to sling it as much as possible. Butch doesnt seem to want to let him throw.

So I would say if he sees the field this week, he will just do what he usually does, hand the ball off. Frankly I think its disrespectful to him and Jones the way Butch doesnt let his backup QBs throw in garbage time.

Depends on when he's in. If he has a couple of drives I think they will let him try to drive the second team down the field. But less than 8 minutes left then we are milking clock.

There's two schools of thought on what you let your QB and your offense do during mop up duty and neither have anything to do with making your starting QB look bad.

The first (which Butch apparently subscribes to) is that the game is over so don't rub their nose in it by throwing the ball. Run the ball and the clock and get the game over ASAP.

The Second (which I subscribe to) is the 2nd and 3rd team players in the game practice just as hard as the starters and when in the game should have the opportunity to play full speed and demonstrate their skills and it is incumbent on the defense to stop them.

No.. Jones will only allow hand off's and 2 yard passes.. He would never do that to an Ohio.. That was once him

It made zero sense to throw any when he went in during the VT game. Just depends when he goes in. Less than 6 or so minutes, we're just going to run clock. If he's got a quarter+ he wil throw. He threw last year, people act like he didn't for some reason. Lol

If Dormady is in because we're up by 4 plus tds in the 4th he has no business throwing down the field. I know I'm in the minority but I hate running the score up on weaker teams that way. They are beat, show some class. All it does is make your team a coach look like a a**hole. In the pros I have no problems with it because they are well payed professionals.

Smart thing to do would let future receivers see they got a guy who can throw them the ball.

On the other hand. The smart thing to do would NOT let future receivers see they have no one who can throw them the ball.

I would love to see dormady take the Ohio game. He can do it, but it would be a completely different game and that's not Butch. Butch likes to play what he trusts. It's my opinion Butch knows what he has with the Dobbs game, he knows how to handle that game, and he's going to work the hell out of that game. Dormady does really need to get on the field this game as far as I'm concerned. Show some belief in him and your team, give him the opportunity to create some game film etc.

+100 I'm tired of the "safe space" fans and coaches whining over whether the score was ran up or not. This is not Upward football. It's the big time college game. Watched the 97 (iirc) UGAvUT game a bit ago. Donnan was across the field pitching a fit because Fulmer wasn't taking a knee midway thru the 4th. The loss was bad, but the whining is embarrassing.

I had ZERO issues with Oregon continuing to pour it on us a few years ago. (Well, actually they took their foot off in the 4th :-\) We're in the SEC. Put up or shut up. Plus everything you said above.

I think the real question is: If (god forbid) Dobbs goes down and Dormady has to play, does CBJ tailor the offense to his playing style or does he become Worley 2.0 executing the read option when you know he is never going to run the ball?

I hope Dobbs stays healthy because as far as I know Dormady has not played in a
regular game with the first team players since he got here . How can he become game ready making handoffs to second and third team players and never working with first team receivers in a regular game?

This was the biggest reason you saw him come in the last drive before halftime against Western Carolina last year. They wanted to put him in the game at a time where it would be acceptable to run the entire offense without looking like you're trying to embarrass your opponent.

They had planned to do the same thing against North Texas, but the entire team looked bad in that game and we did not get up by enough points before what was essentially mop up time.

If the opportunity presents itself on Saturday, you will see Dormady come in and take meaningful snaps. And throw the football. Same goes for the game later this season against Tennessee Tech.

Personally, I prefer that the 'second' team execute the existing game-plan, regardless the score. They need the live work and pressure.

I think that's exactly the plan. They don't want any controversy. If we got a big lead on Ohio then maybe but they don't want to show what's he's got in my opinion because if he shows what an accurate passer he is fans will clamor to play him. Because of Dobbs extensive now playing experience he probably does give us the best chance of winning--until we get the running game shut down, then we're in trouble passing. Butch is too stubborn I think to put Dormady in to save a game. Next year, different story. By the same token won't make much difference who's in there if the o-line can'y keep the rush out.

I'm not one to say run up the score when the game is out of hand but by the same token those 2nd & 3rd stringers practice just as hard as the starters and we all know they're one snap/injury from going into the game. You don't get much game-time experience sitting on the bench/sidelines.

I'd like to see Dormady go in at the start of a series with the 5 best pass protection linemen, Kamara, Byrd, Jennings, Williams, and Malone and run an all pass, zero substitution series.

Really? We are having this conversation Again? He is a phenom, best passer in UT history, and yes he is quick as a cat and his speed is underestimated. Now can we move on.

He'll show out huh? You all forgot he looked like a deer in the headlights trying to throw late last year in games. That's why he only has 22 attempts.

People say show some class but we need to worry about making this team better period. Opponents don't matter get the team in Orange better week in and week out.

There are some big assumptions in this thread. First, that we will be far enough up on Ohio to play Dormady. Second, that the O-line protects him long enough for the play to develop. And, third, that the WRs can run crisp routes and get separation. Let's just worry about winning the game for now. I don't like these threads. Kind of like the "should we tear down the goal post threads".
