Considering Hurrican Matthew is set to make landfall in Florida on Friday, and that the UF v. LSU game is in Gainesville, there is a slight possibility that the game is cancelled.

Lets assume that happens, and that UF ends up going 6-1 in conference play, and we were to end up dropping both of the next two and ended up 6-2. Who would go to the SECCG from the east? Florida played less games and we have the better division record, so I would think it'd still be us, but I was wondering if anyone with more knowledge than me would have an answer.

That's a great question. We've seen non-conference games cancelled because of hurricanes and other weather, but I don't remember ever seeing an SEC game axed.

Also very interested in hearing the answer from anyone in the know.

We had to make up the 2001 Florida game due to 9/11. It was moved to later in the season.

And in 2005 a Saturday matchup with LSU was moved to the following Monday due to hurricane Rita.

I would expect one of those two options would be on the table.

I don't think the West coast of Florida will be impacted.

Well, it looks a lot more positive than it did after the Ga. TD pass with 19 on the clock but we better not assume anything. And, I don't think FL. finishes with only one loss no matter what.

So Behr....I want to repeat back what I think you are telling us.

We have the SEC East Title locked up.

Unless the committee votes us out, but I don't see that happening. Remember, Florida still has to play FSU. That could screw up everything.

I think it was Frederick that was suppose to follow David and go up the east coast, but it cut across central Florida, and caused havoc in the gulf.

It was going north as expected, and suddenly cut west. Sometimes a hurricane doesn't catch the weather report.

Oh yeah, DC, now that you mention the 9/11 game, I do remember that. Was working 20 hour days, but I do remember the game being postponed.

I don't remember the LSU one, for some reason. Thanks for that.

What?? They just get to make it up??? Like, right out of their imagination? That's not fair! What if they decide Florida wins????

Florida did not make up that Idaho game, and it caused them problems at the end of season. I doubt they will do that again.

But they have made up games before. We got our game with Florida moved to end of season in 2001.

Nobody is going to just award a win, Einstein.

Here's an article from espn regarding our postponed game against LSU in 2005 due to Rita. It also mentions some other games that were postponed and moved due to Katrina a few weeks earlier.

Tennessee was ready to forfeit LSU game, AD says

Looks like Matthew will be northeast of Gainesville by a good bit by gametime. Maybe a few showers left around and still a bit breezy, but the game should still be a go.

That game was a glowing bright spot in an otherwise bad season. Pregame was very emotionally charged because of all the devastation in the area from the hurricane . Down 21-0 at half. Ainge threw a terrible pick six while being sacked in his own endzone, and was benched for supposed journeyman and former lsu qb Rick Clausen. Clausen was really good against his ex team but Gerald Riggs and the defense pulling a 180 after halftime is what enabled Tennessee to complete the comeback in overtime. Death Valley was shocked and fulmer had his biggest win of the year. That is how I remember it at least.

Arrrgghhh, that is an excellent point that I had not even considered.

And of course, Florida State is in the Atlantic Coast Conference and Hurricane Matthew is coming in from the Atlantic.

With the title game being in Atlantic Georgia, you are exactly correct. The committee members all own beach condos in Panama City on the Atlantic.

Therefore, I do indeed see the slim possibility of a SEC Title game between Alabama & Florida State..
