Quarterback play

He wasn't saying there would be a public declaration of who the starter is come the end of spring, he was just saying that most around the program expect jg to be the defacto starter unless chryst comes in and outplays him (which many consider not likely) he would continue to be the starter. Also, you are overplaying the unfamiliarity with the new system, JG's high school team ran a hybrid pro style with multiple sets and some spread concepts, mostly from the gun. The only thing that would probably be super new, is being under center more often, but then again until we actually see the Helton offense at UT, we just really won't know how often they will actually be under center.

I'm aware of what he said and wasn't arguing against it. I fully respect KB as a poster, he's one of the better ones on here. I just said I doubt it gets won in the spring with 2 more QB's showing up in June. I could see it if we had a returning QB that has been successful as a starter and shown Coach's he could win as a starting QB. But we don't have that luxury and doubt Chryst was told the starter would be made internally before he got the chance to win th3 job. I don't think the media people saying this have any enough of a relationship established to be given that type of inside info. Especially when they haven't seen any players even in pads yet. I can't imagine us being A shotgun first team with them wanting to be a power run offense. But like you said we really won't know till we see it ran. It's opinion based only just like everyone else on here. I'll gladly admit my opinion was way off if we have our starting QB Before fall camp.

I'm not saying that even internally they will have a clear starter defined, I fully expect Helton to leave the competition open until the later parts of fall camp if then, but I do believe that the coaches will have them mentally ranked if not even ranked between coaches before fall camp, and I like many think that it will ultimately be between JG and Chryst by the end of fall camp.

I absolutely agree. It will come down to Chryst and JG. JT needs to RS and God knows if McBride will even still be here come summer. JG really needs to win the job and give us a few yrs of stability at QB. I'm not sure JG sticks around again if he doesn't win the job.

Anyone who tries to make a legit comparison between JG and Fromm are either trolling or joking.

The comparison wasn't to JG.

A poster asked the question: "How could Chryst come in and lead the team with only 2 months experience with them?"

I answered his question with the question you quoted. The question was not about overall play. It about leadership. Fromm happened to be the first true freshman QB starter that I thought of, but I am sure another name could have worked as well.

My point was that if a first-year player has strong leadership skills, he isn't going to have any problem leading the team.

I don’t doubt JG has the abilities to play QB. He just needs the confidence and we all can agree that being in that locker room wasn’t pleasant last season. The culture clearly sucked from top to bottom and it showed. If they can get this kid refocused and excited about learning and polishing his skills the sky is the limit

Chryst will be the starter Wk1 imo.
