I have seen several threads wanting to fire Coach Pruitt, it was our "quarterback" JG that threw 2 interceptions and a fumble that gave Kentucky a 17 point lead. Pruitt changed to the next quarterback who promptly threw and interception. You do not win games with 4 turn overs. JG has not learned in 4 years "when" to throw the ball. The UT radio team constantly complained of him throwing late and into triple coverage. Thank goodness we at least got Bailey into the game...he is the future of the Vols. Have patience, Pruitt will get us competitive again. Butch Jones left him no players with linemen under 300 pounds and players with no speed. Let's give Pruitt our support, he will get us competitive again.

Isn't the head coach ultimately responsible for having players ready to play?

You may be right, but too late

JG has led UT to some "firsts". First 8 loss season. First home loss to UK since 84. Worst ppg as a starter since at least 1980. Almost guaranteed to end up with the worst record of any UT full time starter since 1980.

...and Pruitt responded how?

IMHO, this is a philosophical problem and a decision that was made in January of 2019. Pruitt went all in on JG at that point. He saw JG flop last fall and still didn't give up on the notion that him being good in practice meant he was the the best choice on gameday.

He has to learnt that with the QB position in particular you choose your most talented guy then coach him up... and you can NEVER just live with a guy's limitations or "name him the starter". I know he thinks JG needs the public support for his confidence. But if Pruitt wants to survive... he better pull the plug.

There's a really, really good chance by now that the team knows the best QB is not playing. They may have different ideas about who the best is... but they don't show a lot of confidence in JG.

Yeah JT threw a INT but you don't build confidence in your players when you pull them after just 1 mistake while letting the other guy continue to make them and not get pulled.
JT probably played tight knowing he would be done with one mistake and was never giving a chance to get lose.

At this point, because it's year 3.....

it's time to stop blaming JG because the coach is putting him in the game. JG is giving it his best and that's all you can ask.

But, the coach(es) should have been able to develop him more or recruited over him by this time.

If they haven't, that's on them not JG.

JG doesn't put himself into the game.

My guess and it sucks.....Bailey isn't close to being ready and JG is better than the other 2. But, that's a pure guess.

So your telling me not to get mad at a coach who openly said it's a waste of time to prepare HB since he was 4th string at the time?

Zero chance Bailey could be worse than JG. How ready do you have to be to out perform that pile of garbage? Its embarrassing as hell and I'm 100% sure every team left on the schedule prays we don't make a change.

I'm sure he can grow and develop into the better player.

I'll just say this.....every pass he threw in this game (small sample size), he threw into coverage.

Tennessee has to find the formula they had before. Boring as hell, but effective.

Run the football, stay in manageable down and distance situations, throw safe dink and dunk passes, and take the occasional deep shot down the sideline.

The coach doesn’t play in the game or throw the passes. JG is horrible at times and is never really that good and the players on the team know it and are over it. I bet he plays less from here...

Pretty harsh calling him a pile of garbage, but I suppose you were at least a starting SEC QB.

I said earlier I think JG was going to surprise a lot of people this year. Well, he has surprised at least one...me. He is the same JG as last year and the year before that. At this point I would rather go 3-7 or 2-8 with a true freshman at the helm than a 5th-year senior.

CJP's stubbornness to stay with JG may really cost us future QB recruits, too. What 4* or 5* QB would want to come here when they see the odds are almost nil of supplanting the starter no matter how poorly they are playing.

I saw effort from 3 guys today. Trey Smith, Eric Gray, and HT. I honestly think that Pruitt’s decision to continue with JG is sucking the life out of this team. It’s not really JG’s fault. I think he doing his best but he’s just not an SEC level QB. The team appeared to play harder when Shrout entered the game. IMO, we’ve got to make a change at QB and stick with it or I think CJP is going to lose this team more than he already has.

Hmmm… I appreciate you trying to throw some impartial reasoning into the conversation. But right now, I think it would be hard to not find better QB play on our bench.

I've been saying this all along. If your busting your hind end and doing your job and then you have one player who isn't performing at the level your HC wants but is still playing week after week and causing your team headaches and presenting other opportunities for the opposing team, it grows old and deflates the team knowing that your coach won't make a change. It reflects poor leadership and accountability on Pruitt. The defense played great the first half and then JG starts the 2nd half and there was zero effort.

Remember, he lost his job and got it back.

What does that tell you?

If JG is still the best QB on the rooster, then fire the QB recruiting coach.
