Okay, but why do we keep losing QB's in the portal?

Merk left because he knew he would never be a starter here, we lost on leavitt because we weren’t willing to pay a ridiculous amount for him, I suspect we lost on the kid for Missouri because Virginia offered him more or he knew there was a better chance of being the starter there as well.

Can Huepel develop his own QB? We are about to find out, come next season him and Joey Sideburns better figure it out.
You mean other than Heupel taking a discarded backup QB after spring practice and turning him into a top 8 all time Vol QB, developing him and teaching him an entire system in about 2 months? Nah, never happen for ole Whuple.

Developing a QB and having a QB friendly offense are two different things. Joe Milton was the same QB in his third year here that he was in his first. Joey was known as a gunslinger with high highs and low lows at App St. and he was still that here, just in a better system. Stats are not necessarily equivalent to development, they’re more indicative of the staff knowing how to utilize existing skill sets.

Hendon is the only QB here that’s really made any noticeable progress from one year to the next since Heupel’s been here. I’m hoping we ride with the young guys and he proves he can do it again.

To be fair to Josh......do you think cornbread would have developed Hendon Hooker and pulled of what Josh and Co. did that season?

Chaney may have developed Hooker if Pruitt stayed out of his way.

That’s a big difference in the two coaches. We see Heup bringing in a DC and letting him build that side how he wants. Whereas Pruitt thought he could micro manage both sides of the ball.
