with Mustian committed (verbally) to Arkansas and Arvell Newton to Iowa..

If Nick Stephens committs elsewhere, is their any other qbs we are looking at

If we cannot land Stephens, look for Sinclair Cannon in the #3 spot. Emergency plan C would call for Cannon to take reps in the spring.
Some just like to say the name Jim Bob Cooter... :stinker2:

Pretty sad when you belong to one of the best conferences in the USA, have a 106,000 plus seat stadium, have had a great fb tradition, a good national tv audience (or have had), you'll play some of the best teams in the country on national tv or at least on regional coverage, UT's in dire need of a quality qb, the university at one time was known as WRU and you still can't get an upper tier qb.

Unless REAL improvement in our offense is seen in 2006, my friends it ain't going to get any better! I hope Fulmer, the AD, the fans & everyone involved have learned, if changes need to be made, don't wait 6 long years before doing a darn thing!

I can't decide whether our current QB situation is a good thing for recruiting or a deterrent. On one hand, we would seem to have a good opportunity for someone to come in at QB and play quickly. On the other hand, potential recruits may think that whatever happens next year, there's a good chance they'll get stuck behind Crompton for 2-3 years.

I think Crompton will not dissappoint. His surgery on his shoulder was not career threatening. He still has 4 years left and if Cut can help Ainge with his confidence then the next 4 years will be good. have a confidence.

It's hard to say GA. But at the same time do we really want a guy without enough confidence to believe that he will win any qb battle. I think the biggest detterant for a potential qb recruit this year was how inept our offense looked despite all of the tlent.

QB is not in dire need this year. As mentioned we have Crompton for the next 3-4 years and Ainge for 2 years. The QB need is for backup only. Not like we are going to have two QB's hurt in one season (LOL). The sky isn't falling, the ground is not opening up so people who are freaking, STOP. The staff is filling the high priority slots and the others are nice to haves. Vols recuiting isn't stellar this year but isn't as bad as some are screaming.

You're probably right, but with Ainge coming off a down year and Crompton coming off shoulder surgery, I don't think we would mind signing one.

Personally, I have a feeling Crompton might step out of the shadows of EA in spring practice and wind up being a 4 year starter, winning 1 or 2 NC's. Just picture yourself on the sidelines last year, what a learning tool. Why not? :dunno:

Ummm....anyone forget the 2004 season? Weren't we down to third string late in the season? If the O-line gives, then we'll be complaining louder than Peyton Manning.

Sad? I think its common sense on the side of the recruits. All those things you mentioned about UTK are why they got the #3 overall QB in the country last season (Crompton). Recruits realize he is a redshirt freshman this season and they will only be one year behind him. Thats a tuff draw.

guess there's only one small detail that's going to prevent us from winning 2 National Titles in the next 4 years. The sucess of shoulder surgery on a freshmen qb. No problem...

Tough draw? It doesn't stop UGA or numerous other schools out there.

People calm down, Both Ainge and Crompton will be fine. If our receivers learn to run correct routes and catch the ball and our OL blocks well the QB's can get it done. Besides if we do struggle at the QB position again then it opens the door for Jimmy Clausen. Remember Rick is a GA. He already has an apartment in Knoxville and he will learn a ton from Cutcliff. It could possibly give us a leg up on Jummy. Thats why UT backed off of the Mustain recruitment IMO.

What about qb prospects for next year? Tennessee has offered two(Clausen, Kinne). Are there any more that the Vols might go after?

If a quality QB wants to play early, I don't think UT is the place for him. With what we have waiting to play, I can't see us getting anyone that is ready to play right now. Now next year we will need to get a big name player. This is going to kill a lot of you...but his first name is Jimmy.

I was outside Mellow Mushroom after the SC loss where Rick Clausen was talking to Jimmy I presume unless there was another Jimmy he was talking to but he kept saying Jimmy. Anyway all I took from the conversation was is this, and this is gospel, Rick said "They are going to need another QB" I thought it meant that he or Ainge were about to quit on the team but the more I think about it he might have been starting to push on his bro. Take it for what you will but thats what I heard.

BTW did anyone notice on Kinnes website that his father resigned from the HC position at his school? Someone lining himself up for a coaching hire?
My thoughts are hiring Rick as GA was the only thing they could do and it was as plain as the nose on your face why they did it. The thing is that UT's QB situation may be just as complicated as ND's etc unless it becomes apparent that Frazer and Jones at ND are very beatable after Brady Quinn leaves, the problem is that UT's 2 QB's will have a year more under their belts where as ND's 2 guys will not take many if any reps from Brady Quinn. As for USC, Jimmy's other touted recruiters, they have Booty and Sanchez who both will have another year on Clausen.
At the minute I see it being between USC and ND with UT and Rick Clausen complicating matters for him.
