Admittedly I don't follow recruiting closely, but I don't recall us having signed any QB's for 14. Is that correct?

I'm worried about the current crop of QB's we currently have - although we haven't seen Ferguson play yet. We need to get a quality QB signed that can help deliver us back to the promise land. Maybe our one of current QB's will get us there, but haven't seen any real evidence yet that they can.

It seems like there are so many examples out there of FR QB's (true and redshirt) that come into a game and look fantastic from the get go (e.g., LSU's Jennings against Arkansas). I'm sure that's a combination of a great recruit and developing the talent, but it's been a LONG time since we had a young QB step in and impress immediately.

I'll hang up and list now :p

All of the potential immediate impact QBs are already committed elsewhere...our biggest chance was lost to Bama with Cornwell...taking a flyer on McClendon won't get the excitement level up imo

I wonder if there are any QBs out there looking to transfer to UT. They'd have to sit out a year, but that could be huge if none of the guys we have work out.

As posted above, any QB that we bring in now will probably need a couple of years to develop. Plus, they will be behind two or three other young QB's.

The key to developing a freshman QB is having a good run game and experienced WR's. We did not have the latter this year. It is hard enough for a freshman QB to make the right reads and throws, but when the WR's don't always make the right moves, then it is impossible. Ainge has said publicly that he benefited his freshman year from experienced WR's. Although Bray had Hunter and Rodgers, he also had Moore and Jones, and Luke Stocker, a senior TE. That is huge for a young QB.

Yeah there are many examples of QBs lighting it up instantly but it's a very rare. You have to give players time to develop. We really don't have a QB for this system also. So give it time/

This .

I think Dobbs is really good fit for the offense. But, you can always find a dual threat with more speed than he has. Dobb's will work on that accuracy and placement of the football in the off season. Still think he will be our starter for next year.

His speed is enough. He ran by secondary when he has had the chance. He's not Nick Marshall fast, but he's sufficient.

If Dobbs is our best QB we are in trouble.

Why ?

Because he didn't dominate as true freshman ?

Let the kid have entire off season to learn the playbook and work on his mechanics before you judge..

You can't base his skills off 4.5 games, 2.5 which were against all Top 5 teams. He needs some time to develop. I also think we should be encouraged about Ferguson as well. Will be an interesting competition. As another poster said, Dobbs is fast enough to run this system. Doesn't need to be a burner.

Even taking sack yardage into consideration, Josh amassed 189 yards rushing in 4.5 games, for a 5.0 yards-per-carry average. He finished as the third leading ball carrier this season. If those stats were projected over the course of a season, they would give Josh somewhere between 500-600 yards, which is monumental for a Tennessee quarterback. I don't believe that we have had a signal caller run the ball that effectively since Jimmy Streater, in 1978, compiled 593 yards on 146 carries (4.1 ave.), for 10 touchdowns (1978 Tennessee Volunteers Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com). By comparison, Tee Martin ran for 287 and 317 yards, respectively, in 1998 and 1999 (1998 Tennessee Volunteers Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com and 1999 Tennessee Volunteers Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com). Similarly, Heath Shuler amassed 286 yards and 11 touchdowns in 1992, his most productive year on the ground (1992 Tennessee Volunteers Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com).

I think you all are going to be a little surprised once you get to see Riley Ferguson actually play. It'll be a two man race between he and Worley next year....Dobbs will be #3.

He was not. He was #4 and injuries forced him into action. IMO we will be fine at QB in 2014.

Ainge and Swain both said Ferguson and Dobbs went back and forth during practice this season. One was ok one week, the other the next. I'll listen the the people actually allowed at practice, without an "agenda". ..Sorry, I mean personal opinion stated as fact.
