We have to get 1 QB in portal if Joey isn’t allowed to come back. Can’t go into the spring with 2 QBs.

i agree with that, but prefer someone to back up our current highly rated qb on the roster now, not someone to start.

You wanna roll with a true freshman who didn’t complete 50% of his passes in a state championship game, a RS freshman, and an elevated walk on? Going back to 2004 we’ve started 2 QBs due to injury or poor performance in 16 out of 22 years. You want to risk playing a walk on against Bama or even worse on the road at A&M?

The playoff as it exists now has only been around for two years, last year and this year. That’s 1/2 by my count. If you’re going to say we should’ve been in the 4 team playoff within the first 4 years of CJH I’ll tell you you’re a crazy person.

Spending $4M for a one year QB seems like a waste of money to me because we aren’t going to win a natty until the defense gets fixed. I’d buy a budget QB who would provide legitimate competition to Gmac and Faizon and let the best man win. Focus resources toward impact defenders. When we have a top 10 defense, then you go get an elite QB if there isn’t one already on the roster.

This. If Joey had an even slightly serviceable defense this year to help him out, we make the playoffs.

No need to break the bank on a one year QB. Fix the defense.

Play defense. Run the ball with Faizon and the RBs. Scheme Matthews and a Staley touches.

I fully expect whoever loses the battle between Mac and Fazion to transfer out, and that's okay.

I only expect this if we go out and get another QB in the portal next year. I doubt Fazion is going to come in and expect to start. GMAC has only been in system for one year. If JA doesn't get another yr and we get a QB out of the portal this year it needs to be a 1 yr QB so it would give GMAC 2 years in system and he should be able to start for two and give Fazion 3 yrs to develop or beat out GMAC for starting job. Coach has to develop a QB if he wants to sustain a team. merk leaving was just about a given known before Nico even left because Fazion coming in.

Ok Merk is out as he is locked behind George and Joey. So if Joey doesn’t return and we go out and pay for a new signal caller what happens if hypothetically speaking George turns and says see ya. What so we are going to pay top dollar for two? We don’t know what has been told to George. About his future especially now with faizon arriving soon.

I have brought up this exact same fear. Say we get a big time QB in the portal (Leavitt or Soresby). And GMac feels slighted and bolts? Then we are screwed. We cannot go into the season with 2 scholarship QBs.

Going to the portal every year for a QB is an extremely risky proposition. The unfortunate thing is if JA can’t come back we are forced to go into the portal for a QB. The question is does JH go after a potential starter to compete or a depth piece?

We have run game, defense and special teams.

Why is it so unbelievable that Faizon Brandon will be as good as Nico was his RS Fr year??

You all are making this way to complicated.

At some point you have to play the QBs you recruit

Not when you can get an experienced starter out of the portal every year. The HS QBs you recruit either become career backups or they leave to go somewhere they can play.

I don’t think there’s any way both GMAC and Faizon are here 24 months from now. Nobody is going to stay someplace that long without starting unless they’re content to just collect an NIL check.
