Just wanted to see where everyone's head was at with the position going into next season. Below is what is running through my mind:

QB1: Harrison Bailey - hopefully has more of the playbook, more confidence for himself and from the coaching staff, and has developed a little more.
QB2: Brian Maurer - I think he sticks around and tries to win the job during the QB battle during the offseason
QB3: Kaidon Salter - obviously tons of talent but will need some time to adjust and could sneak up the depth chart with his ability to make plays

JT Shrout to transfer out, possibly to somewhere back at on the west coast where he is from

Potential transfer QBs:
James Foster (A&M) - we were high on this kid out of HS and has potential but not enough playing time to take a risk on him
Tate Martell (Miami) - I know I know... but I still can't get over how dominant he was in HS. He's got clear ego issues but maybe cornbread could get him straight.
Tanner Mordecai (Oklahoma) - seen what he can do and he is very solid
John Rhys Plumlee (Ole Miss) - could be upset with now being the clear #2
Mckenzie Milton (UCF) - unfortunately this is Dillon Gabriel's team now. I'm still high on Milton even with the knee issues.

Let me know what y'all think.

Maurer is not an option to be a week in and week out starter at QB on The Hill. Shrout, I agree should transfer and take Maurer with him into the portal. JG, should not be invited back as a player, perhaps as a GA. The future for now is HB., Let him play out the rest of this season and see if he can take the reigns and excel. If he can't then you know you have to go JUCO QB for next season and look to Salter down the line.

Doubt salter will sit behind Maurer on the depth chart. As long as Pruitt is here, our qbs won't improve anyway.
I can see that. I think Pruitt like's Maurer's mentality. He's mentioned his fire and passion for the game which CJP likes.

Just took a glance at 247's juco ranking and there isn't even a QB in their juco rankings. Doesn't help that they aren't really playing

There is no way that Maurer sits behind HB. I expect a transfer from he and Shrout. If HB is smart and JG comes back, he should transfer as well.

I bet we see Maurer in the SEC lining up against us.

I can see him going somewhere like FAU and tearing it up

If they allow JG to return he should be the only QB on the roster minus the incoming Freshman. Nobody is playing behind him that want any shot at a decent college career.

I wanted Maurer to get a shot before HB but he looked as lost as any qb I’ve ever seen. He was mentioned to be transferring and said he would never bail on his team DURING THE SEASON. I think the writing is on the wall with him.

I wonder if his mental health issues have caused him some serious problems? I certainly hope not. I would love to see Maurer be like Ferguson. Go to a lower tier school with a much easier schedule where he could flourish.

Unless there is competent offensive coaching/play calling it wouldn't matter if we had Patrick Mahomes.

Something has to change. It's irritating to watch these other games and watch QBs throw the ball in the middle of the field, upfield, find the 2nd and 3rd options, make plays with their feet.....you know be successful QBs. Vols have. 5th year QB who has started for 3 years and he still can't see a blitz coming, is too slow to make a play or extend a play with his feet, can't find the open receiver or throw on time.

The Vols need more than a QB but the one they have been using has sure hamstrung the talent that is there. There are at least 14 other QBs in the SEC who are better than JG (Ole Miss has 2). JG would not be starting for any other SEC team and he's started for the Vols for 3 years. That's enough for me to be done with Pruitt.

But what makes that even worse. There are 2 others who have been in the program for at least 3 years and they are not any better. Plus, there is a 5 star freshman who looks lost when he gets on the field. Plus, I'm convinced he is not athletic enough to run this offense. Only hope for the future is Salter. He better be good.

I’ll never understand why people are so high on Maurer...dude is terrible. We’ve seen him play, it ain’t good. If he leaves, he’ll transfer down, 100% not in the SEC lol

Can any of them play well????

Can we say at the end of the day "such and such played pretty good today and we expect him to continue to be pretty good!"

Thats all we want. At least average.

Please.

I would not be surprised if both Mauer and Shrout transfer. If JG comes back, move him to receiver or TE so he doesn't have to think too much.
