QB Competition: Bray and Simms

I haven't said anything about Simms like, "he smokes weed" "he can't handle the SEC" "he is the worst QB ever." Rather I have said, "here is his past performance, and based on those performances, I fear he will not be successful." I'm not making a claim I cannot back up.

Good for you, seriously. That is the first time anyone has given me anything to support their claim.

With that said, let's not make this more than what it is. One guy on a message board said he saw the team work out and Tyler looked lazy. IMO that sounds more like a rumor.

Look I gave you another link that was not related to me but he seen the same thing. I am not making a rumor and Bray could change but as of now he has not. you are quoting stats from Juco and Louisville. I do not put much into stats for a scrimmage when it also depends on who else was on your team.

you will not find were I said anything about Bray outside the practice Field or workouts. That is not what I am saying, just comparing the 2 on what has been seen by more than just me.

If that is so, then you have a fair point. Still, you are still another guy on a message board to me. I'm sure you are not lying to me, but I don't feel comfortable going around and telling people Tyler Bray is lazy, because two people on a message board said so. With that said, you have the right to make such a claim if you saw it first hand.

Let me ask you this however, do you think the workout you saw is a better indicator of performance than the scrimmages? If so, why?

Maybe I didn't understand, are you saying you went to practice, AND the article was additional?

OK this is my last post on this because I do not want you to think I am down on Bray, He is young and will make a good QB. There is a reason that most freshmen QB's do not start, not to say that there are some exceptions or circumstances that a freshman QB will start.

this is where Simms is far ahead. Tyler is still adapting to school and the requirements expected. Typical freshman that just won't put in the time that an upper classmen understands needs to be put in. Tyler will be fine, in time. He will understand what is required, in time.
Young colts have to get reined in after a while.
My brother and I are s&c coaches for our former HS team in Kettering Ohio, they usually send us up to OSU to shadow their coaches once every summer....it just so happens though that we were vacationing in the Smokies last week. Bob Kesling is a Kettering Fairmont Graduate and we were able to get in contact with him and he arranged a meeting for us to a work-out with Wylie and the team Friday! They had a 6:00, 7:45 and 9:00 workout....team separated accordingly.

It was great, Wylie was really motivating and was taking the players to the limit! The workouts began with sprints, running, footwork and some station weights mixed in. They worked on that for 45 min or so before moving into the weight room for heavy lifting.

QB's were all there, our secondary, DE's and runningbacks.....Bray looked lazy, Simms and Nance blew him away as far as effort, Simms is cut up and Nance looked real quick.

Nowhere in any of these post or any that I have posted is it said that Bray will never make it. Just trying to answer your question.

Not if he can show me something different. If my fears are legitimate you will be right there with me. I don't thinking I am *****ing. I am communicating some real concerns. If you disagree with me, why don't you give me some reasons or evidence to enlighten my understanding.

Didn't we have this problem last year? And the year before? And the year before that? Ainge vs. Crompton. Crompton vs. Stephens vs. Coleman. Crompton vs. Stephens 2: The Pride of Kiffin. Then you realized there was nothing to talk about because the coaches made the right decision? Regardless, Simms will be the starter barring horrible performances. He's good at getting away from pressure, he's got a quick release, has actual college game experience, and whether you want to call it tangible or not, it seems he is the guy to everyone in that locker room. Probably the most important aspect of any QB. His stats reflect a gunslinging type of guy, but couple it with a will to win and the above attributes, and you have a QB that could win games for you.

By the way, did you really do your research on Simms? I mean, really? Did you watch his films? What did you break down? His mobility inside the pocket? Outside the pocket? Who he had to throw to? His vision downfield? How quickly he sets his feet on a 3 step drop? How big are his hands? What's his completion percentage on...3rd down....or in the 4th quarter...or in the red zone? There's a lot to evaluating a QB. Don't sweat the stupid ****. Simms will either win us games, or lose them. But he seems like the guy to make an attempt to do at least something. Which is more than I could say about our QB performances the past two years.

I agree with the sentiment of Simms over Bray unless Bray is head and shoulders better than Simms. I base this thought on a couple of things I have read.

1. The TEAM seems to have taken to Simms as the leader. You can have more talent but if no one is excited about following you then you will fail. If the two are on the same level of quality QBing at this point then give me the guy the team believes in the most.

2. From LWSVL reports Bray is immature and likes weed. That's not the guy I want leading us right now regardless of talent. He will let you down.

I think you take these things on a case-by-case basis. You can't make a blanket "well if the younger guy is as good you play him to get him experience" statement. There are too many variables.

I agree.

I dont see how people think Bray will start this year. He has no experience at all. Simms has some, it may not be the best, but its experience none the less. It will be Simms and as stated before, it will taken a Cromp like performance to bench him.
