The title probably leads many to think I'm talking about TENN's QB situation, but I'm actually looking all across the SEC. Many new starters or one year starters for the 2017 season. Going to be a lot of QBs with no starts or a few starts and some with a full season.
Many are listing the Vols inexperience at QB as a reason for concern in 2017. With that in mind, what QB would you trade either QD or JG for, that you think would make Tenn a better team. We've seen Hurts, Eason, Bentley, Del Rio, and others play several games, and some will have new starters. Who would you trade for????

Our most formidable out-of-conference opponent, Georgia Tech, will also have a new starter at QB.

I've said it before, and will again. Although most are in the Eason hype train, I'm not that impressed. He may come out and put up a heisman season and make me look bad, but we're not as bad off as some are making. I mean Eason isn't a slouch, but he didn't make me think "we'll never beat Georgia again". Sorry, just wanted another shot to down the dawgs😬

I wouldn't. Dormady and Guarantano, and while we are at it, every other player presently on the roster CHOSE to be Vols. Now, if any of them turn into Hurd or Michael Sawyers on us, I might think about that kind of thing.

But I am not going to disrespect them like that even in a theoretical conversation. Crap question.

I've been really excited about JG since he committed. I was worried about him recovering from his High School injury, but from what I understand, there has been no issues there. If we can bulk him up with hindering his speed, mobility, or accuracy, he should be a great QB who goes on to great things.

Wouldn't trade for any other QB, they chose to go somewhere else! We have a couple of very talented QBs. The question is whether we have enough of everything else.

Thanks for the hypothetical question OP. While I appreciate fan's loyalty and the "...they chose TN..." or "..wouldn't trade them for anyone.." mindset, it is a hypothetical question and as such I can't understand why anyone.....anyone wouldn't want Hurts.

JG was the best dual threat his year and some said the best qb. I will stick with him.

As would I. I know QB is the hardest position coming out of HS to evaluate and there are 4* and 5* QB flops every year. But his potential is absolutely off the charts. I just hope he lives up to it and our coaching staff doesn't underuse or don't give him the best coaching that taps into and brings out his full skillet. I think if Dobb's had had a competent QB Coach from the day he stepped on campus who knows what kind of numbers and additional wins he could have had. Even his SR year had many ups and downs and had he had a QB Coach of this century or even just a true coach that actually was getting paid to coach QB's and not a GA then his numbers, wins and draft stock could have been epic. Butch seriously dropped the ball on that. And let's not bring up how badly misused Kamara was in his 2 yrs. I think Wolf has been another offensive player who is being underused. He presents pass catching mismatches and really should get used way more. JMO

I don't have enough to posts to start and thread, and maybe it isn't thread worthy but I would very much appreciate any replies.

What is the future for Sheriron Jones?

If you have paid attention to the sidelines, he has been a great leader. Granted, this has been from a cheerleading role, but he was constantly in the ear of the other quarterbacks, constantly involved and engaged. Now, I don't know much about his performance in practice but he ran a 4.6 40 in high school and maybe he has improved in speed and could be utilized in another way?

http://allfortennessee.com/2017/03/16/tennessee-football-quarterbacks-spring/amp/3/

What I saw:
I has season tickets way up in QQ but my brother in law pulled some front row tickets (Once in a lifetime for me) for the Missouri offensive outburst (by both teams). I couldn't stop watching Sheriron constantly walking up and down the sidelines, in the ear of the starters, providing encouragement. His personality is infectious and I hope he gets a chance to compete at some position.

Admittedly off topic for comparisons sake:
While sitting right behind the benches, I also got a chance to watch Jennings whine and complain and chew Azzani a new ***hole because he wasn't getting the ball enough. Despite the obvious disparity in talent between those two, I prefer to pull for the unselfish guy that puts team before self. I hope Jennings continues to thrive, and I understand having fire and competitiveness, so don't get me wrong, but he went on several profanity laden tirades directed straight toward the coaches in public throughout the season.

Back to the topic at hand:
So... Can Tennessee offer anything to Sheriron Jones? Will he go through his career as a backup? Will he transfer (again)? What do you think? Thanks for any replies.

JG has a much better arm than Hurts imo. Dude has a rifle, and runs probably just as good as Hurts. I wouldn't trade our QB's for anyone I don't think.

Sheriron competes for the starting spot and if he doesn't get it, he transfers imo.

What you describe about Jennings is what the majority of HOF WR's makeup consists of...they ain't shy violets! Not suggesting he's there but demanding the ball is par for the course for a top receiver.

If sherion transfers and whoever loses the battle between JG/QD transfers, we will be screwed.

I don't think Jones will be the starter at QB, didn't mean that... Just wondering if there are any options for him at Tennessee.

I agree about the fire in Jennings and HOF receivers (See panther/Raven Steve Smith) but this is college, not pro ball. He's not getting paid and acting like a selfish baby shouldn't be rewarded in my opinion. It can lead to problems (See Jalen Hurd).

Why wouldn't JG transfer though? QD would still have 2 years here, I doubt JG would ride the pine that long if QD was named starter, just my opinion.

Because he would be adding another year in a transfer to the time he's waited...and you don't want a guy who doesn't feel he can win the job eventually. And a lot of this hinges on the timing of the starter announcement. If it's just before the start of the season, Dormady would see that redshirt option he has in his back pocket being potentially wasted. Ride out the season without transferring and you get a one year shot. JG rides the season out with the possibility of overtaking Dormady and worst case scenario, he has two years at his next stop. Not suggesting this bizarre scenario but UNC has a similar offensive system and they went from a DT type to an unaccomplished pro-style backup in Mitch Trubisky...did so badly in one season that he's a projected high first round pick. Things. :)

I'll stand pat with the QB's we have.

I have to include S. Jones in this because he was a very highly rated QB coming out of High School too.

History tends to repeat itself and I'm afraid we might see that happen again with our current QB situation.

Peterman left us, went to Pitt and is now expected to make a NFL roster so it's very possible that whoever is named the starter this season will force our other best QB to leave us to go find playing time at another school and since I never sat the bench I can't belittle a guy for wanting to go elsewhere to play the game he loves and had worked hard for so many years to become a good player.

Losing either JG or QD could become a huge loss for us if the other guy gets hurt.

The other side of the coin is that we all know that for some players the light "clicks" on in their Jr or Sr seasons and they breakout like we expected when they first hit campus.

I'd hate to lose either QD or JG but for S. Jones having 1 of them transfer out could be exactly what helps him get more reps, more coaching and things "click" for him and he becomes what some on here thought we would see when he signed with us.

Several times we've heard that S. Jones has the best Leadership, best positive/never quit attitude and coaches love that.

There's something about our Vols that he really loves which is why he came back after 10 or so days at another school even though he well knew the serious competition he would face on the hill.

Most on here agree that our starting QB should be either QD or JG but if 1 of them leaves then don't rule out what S. Jones could suddenly bring to the table.

Peyton and Tom Brady were the backup QB's until they weren't and then they never were a backup again.

Stranger things have happened and that's why I never rule out any backup player because everything could suddenly "click" and they breakout into a beast of a player.

With the 3 QB's we have now and all highly ranked out of high school I'll be happy to stand pat with who we have and watch to see what happens next.

VFL...GBO!!!
