We live in Cape Coral, but have had this Talladega trip planned for a year. Nothing could have changed if we'd have stayed. We weren't sure what we'd be going back to Monday, but found out that our home, despite taking a direct hit and being across the street from the Caloosahatchie River, only took very minor damage. We'd were told that the surge stopped 3 feet from our garage door. My mother-in-law's house is missing some shingles and her pool cage is wrecked, but evidently no flooding for her either. Amazing, really, compared to the devastation surrounding us. The terrible thing is that most of our friends on Ft Myers Beach have lost EVERYTHING...literally everything but the clothes on their backs. Mrs SAPPER and I both work on FMB, and our jobs have been swept away... FMB is gone, gonna be a long, long rebuild. Your prayers were, and ARE, greatly appreciated, VolNation.
