Pure speculation here but do you think Hammy is hedging his bets?

I really don't think CLK is seriously in the mix as a first line choice for the USC job but if it actually did materialize what then? D o you think Hammy is getting together a list of possible replacements? I'll hang up & listen.....

Why would he? I seriously doubt USC would want to get into a bidding war with UT.

Football is taken MUCH more seriously here..and that's why our facilities and stadium renovations are way beyond that of SC's...why would they throw out a figure knowing we'll just match it? We're getting a lot more revenue with the new SEC ESPN/CBS TV deal. It might have been the ideal job last year...but not this year. Much has changed, and this staff has built a ton of momentum. Don't see why he'd want to scrap that, knowing he may well be King of the Hill in the SEC within a few years.

The Clay Travis book says that Hamilton always keeps a constantly updated list of potential candidates. I've no doubt Hamilton has a list of coaches he'd call ready to go right now for both football and basketball.

CLK is not even on the USC wishlist...Sark is however...What does that tell you?...Don't worry, CLK isn't going anywhere.

They were paying Pete 4.4 million to coach SC. I'd say they take football out there very seriously. They're also building new facilities as we speak. If they want Kiffin they could probably get him. He only would owe the school $800g, chump change in today's market.

Well according to an article that came out after CLK was hired, Troy Calhoun was Hammys 2nd choice...UT running the triple option...Wouldn't that have been interesting.

This. I just finished "On Rocky Top" today and read this part of the book a few hours ago.

My heart skipped like three beats when I read that and thought for a moment that could be reality. Please let us keep the Kiff... I think we will but want this to be over with!

If CLK leaves for USC I'm not so sure that Hamilton gets to make the choice of the next football coach. Giving CPF an extension right before he fired him and then having his successor bolt after 1 year doesn't cut it for an AD.

I remember reading an article someone posted on here about the hiring process of Kiffin. It talked about how Hamilton always has a list of potential replacements just in case.
