I've had this discussion with people who say they pull for SEC teams when they play outside the conference. "We want the SEC to look good", etc... as in, root for Alabama against VA Tech on Saturday.
Even though Alabama is representing our conference, I can't do it. I hate Alabama. I hate every SEC team except Tennessee. Even if Tennessee ends up in the polls mid-season, and we'd get a bigger boost by beating an undefeated Alabama, as opposed to Alabama with a few losses, I can't do it.
I know there are money and exposure factors. If the SEC sucked and everybody always lost, we wouldn't get the TV deals we have - and the better everyone plays, we all benefit financially. But when it comes down to Saturdays on the field, I can't do it. I can't cheer them on. I hate Alabama. I hope Tech kills them.

Unfortunately, I live in big 12 country right now so I kind of do cheer for SEC teams. Don't get me wrong, I hate bama, georgia, florida and the rest of them. But for me, I can't stand to listen to people try and compare their big 12 schedule with a typical SEC schedule. So, I want to be able to beat a georgia who beats the crap out of a Ok. st. "prolific" offense. That is just my take. It makes me feel better for the Vols to beat our SEC opponents when our opponents beat other conference teams.

I pull for every SEC team in every sport except for Alabama. If the Tide played the Taliban, I'd put on a burqa.

I generally cheer for anyone on Tennessee's schedule. Helps propel them in the polls if they beat them and hurts them less in the polls if they lose to them.

"Pulling for the SEC" is sort of like eating broccoli. I know I should probably do it, but it's just not happening.

I think that is what makes the SEC unique. Pride in the conference.

It's kinda like making fun of your little brother, you can do it , but you better not ever hear of someone else doing it

I'm all for that, as long as it's not Alabama. A strength of schedule hit is a risk I'm willing to take for a 4-8 season from Bammer.

Sorry guys, I want the SEC to be the undisputed best conference. And if that means us beating the ACC/BIG 12/BIG 10 etc, so be it. I want teams to fear playing all members of the ACC, not just Florida or Bama. So I hope Bama and Georgia win their games. I want them confident when WE beat them.

Now, I was ecstatic when BAMA lost to Louisiana Tech or whatever that school is called. Essentially, I want the nation to know the SEC is where the best ball is played if they didnt know it already.

Haha. As long as it's to quality teams(VT) or within the SEC. We don't need teams in the SEC losing to Wyoming(hangs head) or UL Monroe or whoever it was Bama lost to. That just reflects poorly on the conference.

oh i wasn't being sarcastic, bro. i was just sayin. its a good thread and one that never gets old. some people will argue that by the sec performing better against nonconference foes it makes us all look better, provides more national respect, makes us more likely to get the votes, etc, etc. i say if UT takes care of business, screw everybody else- we'll be just fine in the polls with the way we schedule. lol. keep postin, brotha. i wasn't hatin.

I disagree, I feel like people will see those as a fluke. Honestly, thats just a massive upset. If the SEC loses to more quality teams, I believe that reflects poorly on the conference. If the SEC can go out and beat some of these other quality teams it can only help bolster the SEC's standings.

you don't have to want other SEC teams to win, but if they do it makes it less bitter knowing it only make us look better in the long run. Other conferences can talk as much as they want about being the best in CF but i've seen too many out-of-towners move to TN really sit down and watch a full SEC season and see that week in and week out we have the hardest games in conference, any non bias sports fan will admit it.
