I've been hearing that the KPD is nabbing a ton of people on the strip for little or nothing. I don't go to the strip because I'm way to old and have not been on the strip for better than 15 years. Has anyone else heard anything? My nephew goes to UT and he said several of his friends got nabbed leaving a bar on the strip. He said it's out of control. He said now he and his buddy's go to other parts of town. Which makes me a little upset because now they have to drive instead of walk.

Has anyone else heard anything?

I've been out in Knoxville for years and from my experience you have to be super-hammered and acting crazy to get arrested. On more the one occasion, my friends and/or myself have been asked to poor alcoholic beverages out but I've never known them to arrest or even cite people for no reason.

I wonder how many people got mugged in Fort Sanders while these arrests were being made.

This was on the strip. I cant remember what bar it was so I cant say. But he said the only reason he was not arrested was because the door man at the bar started warning everyone to hold on before they left to give the cops time to move on down the strip. Then they all left and went the other direction. But he said something like 44 (I thnk was the number) of public intox that same night. It was after a game and the strip was packed.

Someone at the beginning of the season made a post saying they were going to crack down on this and to watch out

they definitely are. i got arrested last year when i was sober and bc the cop didn't follow any kind of procedure, as in breathalizer or sobriety test, my lawyer made sure he is no longer working.

When I was in town for the Florida game last year I was almost arrested and I was not drunk. I was leaving New Amsterdam (RT's) with some friends after they had closed and we were on the sidewalk waiting for a cab we had just called. The cops told us the "sidewalk was closed" and we had to cross the street to the other sidewalk in front of Hannahs that was open. Once we got to Hannahs the cops on the other side of the street said we had to keep moving down the strip. Both times we were threatened with being arrested. It was very ridiculous and we are not the rowdy type of people that cause trouble. We never did get a cab and were actually taken home by some girls who were drunk that we did not know, but it was the only way home and the cab companies were not answering the phones or they were busy. So the moral of the story, cops dont care that you are trying to do the right thing, they will still arrest you. Although I do not condone it, the cops proved that night it is better to drive home intoxicated, less chance of being arrested and far easier.

Yes I was assaulted and actually beated up by a few gamecock fans in 2003 outside of the Library entrance outside of the tyson house. Beat up means a guy was yelling curse words and then hit me in the head and then once in the chest and split my eye open. I was walking down the hill near the days inn and was arrested for being intoxicated because i was in pain and he thought I was drunk. This will never change with these non-educated police officers. On Long Island you actually have to earn an Associates Degree to become a cop.

I have known numerous people that have gotten arrested for this. Actually had a friend that was arrested because he was leaning on a cop car talking on his cell phone.

They have been cracking down on this, hard. Not really shocking that knoxville law enforcement has been focusing on meaningless crime such as this.

Its really not that bad.

I spend every weekend and gameday on the strip and you really gotta be messed up and acting stupid to get arrested.

dont jaywalk, throw stuff, or yell obscene stuff and you will be A OK.

The strip is where douchebags go to be douchebags.

Can't go out much these days cause I got 2 little boys but when I do, I hit up Barley's.
They have every beer imaginable and great live music.

I've heard the kpd are nabbing people left and right for walking down the strip after leaving a bar, just to get quotas met.

I was arrested down there two years ago for being to drunk! What a joke. They take sobriety in a bar district very seriously. The jail in Knoxville sucks. Could not bail out of there soon enough. All for a 300 buck fine.

I had a friend walk out of the half barrel after already calling a taxi to come get him. An officer asked him and another guy what they were doing. My friend responded, "waiting for my cab." The cop replied, "I have a ride for you," and cuffed him and the other guy, all while the other guy's girlfriend was standing there with them. The judge dropped the charges after the agreed to pay court costs. What a racket...

All the Cabs are in the Old City where Normal people who don't cause trouble are drinking. The strip has been taken over by underage frat kids that have 4 beers and start fights.

I breathed a sigh of relief when this thread was not about one of our players.

You would think - but I witnessed it happen one once this year already (one time I actually went down there late after a game). Don't know if that was a special occasion or not.

The cops have been awful everywhere this year. People have never seen the cops so active in Knoxville. The police department is dealing with alot of lawsuits right now.

Cops are uneducated pricks who have a serious issue with college kids. I was given a citation a few weeks ago for riding in a sober drivers car back to my apartment. There was one open beer can in the back of the car that wasn't even mine, and they hammered me for it. Its gotten absolutely ridiculous with the KPD. Something really needs to be done.
