In the days of old, when the Vols played at home, the homefield advantage did indeed come into play.I feel UT is in process of regaining that status.Bar Steve Spurrier, and Bear Bryant, % wise, UT has been very dominant.I don't really care what the paper stats say, IMO, the worm has definitely turned to the Vols favor and any big team (not overlooked)i.e., UF Saturday night, will have to deal with the ressurrecton of the Vols, the players being fired up (underdog role) and crowd nosie, renewed crowd nosie!

winning always helps homefeild advantage...it gives the fans something to cheer about, and feel like they are part of the "team", which they are, so don't get me wrong...

Beating a top 10 Cal team was a big step in the right direction...beating UF Saturday night would be a giant stride in the right direction...

7-8 years ago on a interview I heard Spurrier say of the Vols rivalry....there were games when Tennessee fielded an awesome squad and should have blown us off the field, but because of the psychological leverage we enjoyed...(him grinning hugely here) it did'nt work out that way.

yep...we hoped to win, and played close to the vest trying Not to lose...while UF knew they could win, and went for the jungular often and early...i'll never forget that 4th and 11 play in the 96 game....we stopped 'em, the crowd was going nuts, and on 4th and 11 from like the 35, they score a TD....

the crowd deflated faster than tires running over a nail strip. And that 96 team was very good...

I think in the Manning years there was something to this pyscho stuff. It seems like in alot of those games things just blew up. I mean it seems like when Florida starting scoring it was like everyone in the stadium was thinking here we go again. But of late i think the mental thing is gone with Mr. Spurrier. I think this years game comes down to more of a game of heart. I think these two teams match up well. They are alot alike on both sides of the ball. I think whoever wins this one could have a big year. I think it is our turn. No more fake punts or silly mistakes. I just feel like it is time we had a complete game agaist flordia. Maybe I am wrong who knows.

To get a good picture of how psychology affects the game, you don't have to go back much further than UTs season last year. By my completely subjective and unscientific reasoning, the Vols were physically superior to at least two teams that beat them (Vandy and SC,) were probably even with 2 teams that beat them (Bama and Florida,) and were maybe physically inferior to two teams that beat them (Notre Dame and Georgia,) and one team they beat (LSU.) Call it coaching or chemistry or psychology, but physical talent certainly isn't the only factor in determining the outcome of a game.
