OK,

I asked this about six months ago, and people were pretty split. Here's the deal, I'm still trying to decide between the XBOX 360 and the PS3. I'm primarily a sports gamer, but I'll do the shoot em ups and beat em ups like COD and Ninja Gaiden. But Madden, NCAA, etc are my bread and butter. Many say that the sports game play is better on the 360.........

Is this still true???

You cannot go wrong with either. I have had both, but I have always liked the PS platforms. I traded my 360 for a Wii. Still kickin the PS3 tho. 360 online may be bit better, but you do have to pay a small ammount for it whereas PS3 online is free. 360 also has alot more games, but all the big EA sports games are always on both.

There's a good chance that if you get a 360 you will get this.

I've had my 360 for 6 months, no RROD.

You mentioned NG... the only way to get NG2 is on the 360. Then again, eventually the only way to get MGS4 will be the PS3. You also said shooters... Halo is still the most popular shooter ever, again, a 360 exclusive.

Call of Duty is currently the most played game on LIVE and has been for awhile now (excluding GTA launch week and a couple other weeks here and there).

Either machine is good. If BluRay matters to you, the PS3 happens to be the best BR player available. I think the 360 has a better interface and ties your friends together better. PS3 is solid, but is lacking in some online stuff and thus far has been slower to get demos, some game titles, and additional game content.

Walmart $100 giftcard with purchase of PS3 this week and next.

I've had both, currently I have a PS3 but I plan on buying a 360 too when Gears of War 2 comes out. I like sports games better on the PS3 but when it comes to shooters I prefer the 360. I also believe the 360 is coming out with a blu-ray player soon.

360 has it's heat issues and is noisy but I love it. GOW is the best reason to own a 360. The online play is amazing. I plan on getting a PS3 when I get out of school. The PS3 is more "durable" but the online is lacking. I say start with the 360 and get Gears of War this month. They are releasing an edition for 39.00 that has all the downloaded content. You can get a gold account for about 35 bucks a year. Have fun.

ps3 runs madden and ncaa just as well as 360 now. ps3 has free online, blu ray player, true 1080p upscaling dvd player, built in wifi, regular laptop hard drive (so can upgrade as big as you want). they are both good machines, you get more for your money with ps3.

I'd go 360 with a back up plan just in case it wipes out on you. (Microsoft's defective unit rate is atrocious.)

The only difference is if you have a HDTV, PS3s 09 will not support 1080i just 720. 360 will support 1080i. But both games will be 60 fps. So if you don't care that you won't get 1080i and will have to settle for 720 than you want the 360 game.

BUT!!! I just bought my PS3 and it's the first times in a couple years I don't have to worry about RROD, or my game freezing. PS3 to me is def. better to me because it's here in my living room instead of in Texas getting repaired.....again.

I doubt anyone here owns a 1080i only HDTV. Those were pretty much first and second generation CRTs from years ago. So, it's a non-issue. The game renders at 720p on both systems.

I don't game on mine anymore though, I got a new 1080p LED DLP in March. :good!:

See, you may have one, but you aren't using it any more.

I feel bad for folks with a 1080i only set. There's lots of good PS3 games that they have to play in SD because Sony was too cheap to include a scaler like every other video device made nowdays.

I still use it in a different room. It is still an excellent HDTV. It is directly connected to my PC via a DVI to component adapter I have, made by ATI. I have been considering getting a second HD cable box for it so my wife gets more use out of it while I'm playing games on the big new box. :)

Your point is well taken though.
