A little research shows me that the new PS3's are not backward compatible with PS2 games.

What would I be giving up (vs. new ones) if I bought a used or refurbed 60gb with the hardware backward compatibility? I've seen several on eBay with warranties and they are priced the same as new 80gb ones.

Thanks. :hi:

Nothing. You actually gain a better system with PS2 comp., DVD-A, and some other stuff that can since been cut due to cost and need.

However, you're getting an older BluRay drive with possibly some wear. If a PS3 goes out, it's generally due to the BluRay player. $120 via Sony (I think) or $70 or $80 if you do it yourself (replace the laser inside the drive).

Otherwise, you're set. It includes the emotion chipset for running PS2 games, so nothing magically about the harddrive. Feel free to replace it with a bigger one if you ever need it.
