I am very aware that this Vol squad represents Pruitt's 1 year as the coach of our beloved Volunteers. I hope to see a team that let's WV know that we play football in Tennessee too and after the game they know they have just been in a war for 60 minutes and they won't forget it anytime soon.

Go Vols give your all for Tennessee Today!

Yes, I hope they know they have just been in a dogfight by the big "L" they tote all season from us. That way, even after they aren't sore anymore they still have something to remember the Vols with. A "L" is the gift that keeps on giving the whole season long.

Your welcome WV

I like your style, photovol.. ! Honestly my expectations for the D are fairly low for 2 reasons:

1. DL depth - while we have some high-quality players atop the depth chart, after that it's iffy at best.. e.g. We have a walk-on (Bain) and a true FR (Harris, who was a low 3* on Rivals) at 2nd string DE.
2. Secondary inexperience - we could have multiple true freshmen on the field at critical junctures on Saturday.. Going against a potent/explosive offense like WVU, that's not a great recipe for success.

The obvious strength of the D is the LB corp, which if healthy is extremely deep, talented and versatile. We have to hope they're able to make a lot of plays and contain Grier. He's sneaky fast, so sure tackling will be a 'must' when the pocket breaks down or on designed keepers. We can't let him beat us with his legs, and our LBs have to contain and take good angles..

As others have said, the key to this game may very well be time of possession.. We have to avoid 3-and-outs to keep the starters from getting too worn down late in the game..

GBO!

There’s a quote in the most recent practice article from Abernathy where he says “We’re going to practice hard regardless of who we are playing, whether it’s a bye week, or regardless of the opponent that week, we’re going to practice hard that’s what we do.” if you are looking for a difference between the recent past and now and how that may show on the field i think that quote may be a sign good things to come....

There is a saying that by the 3rd game of the season a team improves the most...I haven't seen that happen in a number of years...I expect that to happen this year even if there are a couple subpar games between the WV and Florida game. It is going to give our defense a chance to get a lot of players ready to head into the teeth of our schedule..Those two games in between WV and Florida will help tremendously.

The third game has always been Florida and most all the time we lose. Then we hit murderers row in the SEC. This theory doesn’t apply to Tennessee.

Its a new day. People are going to have to get rid of that old mentality.

I have this question for you. Why would a person be critical of a team if they didn't buy in when they themselves refused to buy in ? This is a new team with a lot of athletes and coaches who know how to coach. I have bought in 110%. Sit back and enjoy every game. Enjoy the growth of the team as a whole who is made up of some very good atheltes !

I get that and agree. I’m talking about history though. It is what it is.

Every year brings a new season, a new Tennessee team. This moment, before the first clash on the gridiron, now is hope eternal. Relish it. The game will be played. The outcome will be known. Yes, life can be this simple. GBO

I hope Grier is on his ass all day Saturday and we put a cloud over his "Heisman" campaign. Knock the PEDs right out of him.
I hope the days of our defense making 3rd string qbs look like AA QBs is over for sure. Grier will get his numbers. I just hope he doesnt go for 400+ and the rest of the year look mediocre.

Actually,I'm anxious to see some of the guys who haven't played that much to see how good they really are. Hopefully they have learned enough so far and gotten coaching to play the way we all remember Vol defenses used to be. (Offense also)

Quite a bit of difference throughout the year when you see your team improving each week vs regressing. I think that is what we will see and actually begin to see the athlete in the players being displayed. Teaching makes all the difference in the world.

Just make tackles...tired of all the missed arm tackles that end up going for 10+ yds. We will get beat, but I don't want to beat ourselves.

I think on Saturday people are going to see why it is David Sills is not playing in the SEC. I predict a lot of unhappy UWV fans!

Add to that learning a new scheme.
Unfortunately UT doesn't have the advantage of having a cupcake for it's opener. It's baptism by fire for UT's defense. This leaves very little room for experimentation. Spot what appears to be a weak link along the front and attack with LBers. Keep applying pressure the entire game. Never let Grier feel comfy in the pocket. that and ball control on offense will likely be the major keys to a Vol victory, IMHO. GBO!!!

I think CJP and his coaches and the players are so tired of hearing HOW BAD THEY ARE........
That was last year.. These players have more pride than that for it to happen again...
I think they come out with a HUGE CHIP on their shoulders and punch WVU in the mouth...
They are ready to prove that they are better than ANYONE is giving them credit for.....

JUst like arm tackles, I'm tired of our guys running along with the ball carrier trying to rip out the ball..meanwhile it winds up being a 15 yd run. Someone needs to wrap up the legs.
