Not trying to ruin the excitement of the fans who support Pruitt.

This is all I’m going to say regardless if some of ya’ll agree or disagree.

IMO, I think our program could have done much better. Our Administration really screwed the pooch.

It should have NEVER came to this point where we had to dig at the bottom of the barrel for assistants.

Obviously the decision by Fulmer has already been made and nothing can be done about it.

However, I don’t support the hire nor feel confident that this will work out long term. I’m begging Pruitt to prove me wrong this upcoming season. I truly am! But if the last previous hires didn’t teach you anything, well....

We gave a Dooley a chance.

We gave Butch a chance.

How many times are we going to have to go through this repeatedly process until finally a HC works out?

Like I said, I’ll still be supporting UT to win and won’t be going anywhere.

Pruitt will have to prove to me he can handle the expectations and responsibilities that come with the job because it’s not easy.

I’ll be happy to eat crow if Pruitt turns out to be a Grand Slam but I don’t have a reason to feel that way right now until he starts winning.

The main reason I’m excited about Pruitt is his results at big time programs and his recruiting. Dooley and Jones never had the reigns of an offense or defense at a big time program before they were hired here.

If you consider him to be the bottom of the barrel for assistants then who do you have at the top. Venables is the only coordinator that comes to mind as maybe being better, difference is Pruitt has looked good under 3 different coaches

So are you going to judge him hard on next year? I agree with you in a sense, that I am in wait and see mode. I was completely against it but after really thinking about it abd watching some videos, Pruitt could be a good one.

But next year is going to be very tough. I dont expect him to win more than 5. Hopefully your first year expectations aren't astronomical. Because he has a lot of work to do with our team.

Meh. Same guys that think all the freshmen recruits should be starting their first year. Good hire. Staring that a sitting P5 head coach was our objective was the mistake.

i'm happy with this hire, all things considered, and that doesn't mean that i "know" it's going to be great.

what i do know is that this guy has a proven track record of winning at a very elite level, his defenses have been elite level wherever he's been, and he's recruited at an elite level wherever he's been. he's got 3 national titles as an asst coach/coordinator, 5 conf titles ( i think that's right?), and has been recruiter of the year on more than one occaisoin.

not a single coach we've had in the last 10 years even comes close to that.

throw in that he's widely considered to be one of Nick Saban's most trusted coaches, outside Smart, maybe the most trusted. throw in the reaction from Alabama fans....and some GA fans....and some FSU fans.....

and those are the things he is....it's also worth noting wht he isn't....he isn't a band member...he isn't a lawyer....and he isn't a walking punchline.

he looks like a football coach. he acts like a football coach. he sounds like a football coach.

so i can at least see light at the end of the tunnel.

was he my first choice? no. but once sunday last, and the ensuing week happened, there was no chance we're getting our first choice. so what are ya gonna do?

we could have steele. we could have doeren. we could have schiano. as a result of this mess.

instead, we got an alpha male that coaches fantastic, elite level defense and recruits is azz off.

as for next year...you do what you want judgement wise, but i don't think next year is the litmus test for a coach. rarely is any 1st year for any coach.

i'm calling it a win and going to bed.

go vols.

He’s a great DC, but I’m wait and see too. Hopefully he can be a good head coach. I want to see assistant coaches too. I do trust Fulmer and I congratulate him on making this hire which is considered strong at this point of the search.

Next year is going to be a struggle regardless of the coach. Gruden, Mullen, Leach... doesn’t matter. It’s not going to be pretty. I wouldn’t judge anyone on that. 6 wins and being relatively competitive in the most of the losses would be a good job.

Good Lord! The sun ain't even up yet and somebody's done pizzed in your cornflakes. You know, hiring a coordinator from a top, national contending team is not normally considered a bad thing or a failure. It is done all of the time with great results, eg; Fla. State, Georgia, Clemson, and many, many others.

while i agree with you........i'm also to the point i'd like to see something to believe in. win a game, or two, you aren't supposed to.

don't fall flat llike everyone else did. all three of the previous coaches had opportunities to change thier legacies here, and all three failed.

i don't expect to win the East next year.

but i dont' think we should expect to lose every game somebody says we're supposed to either.

the schedule is tough. but win a game or two that matters. don't lose games we shouldn't lose. get your 7 or 8 wins, and i guarantee most will be estatic with that, especially if there's a win in that Bama/GA/FL/Aub stretch.

and for goodness sakes...beat vandy.

I think what he meant was that you started a thread to put your own opinion on the Pruitt hire... no one cares

You don’t care.

Yet, here you are replying to me.

Simply don’t click on the thread or put me on ignore.

Your choice.

No Top Coach is going to come to UT as HC as long as the BOT, Administration and Donors are dysfunctional.

Heck those above listen to Jimmy Haslam and he has proven he cannot run a football franchise.

We all wanted whomever it was that we wanted and few probably had Pruitt as their top choice. But that's over now. Now is the time to rally around Coach Pruitt and commit to giving him at least 4 years of unquestioning support. He's going to need a unified fan base that understands the dire situation that he inherits, and allows him to grow as a coach. He will make mistakes. But if he transitions to HC with the same aplomb that he displayed as a DC, he should succeed.

BTW, his 5 years a DC showed the following rankings in FBS college football in the all-important scoring defense stat:

2013 FSU- 1st
2014 Georgia- 17th
2015 Georgia- 8th
2016 Bama- 1st
2017 Bama- 1st

Time will tell, but let's give him our best effort as fans!

I completely understand your skepticism, op. I, however, am pretty stoked about this hire. I’ve been optimistic about all our coach hires, but this is the first time I’ve been excited about a new coach since Lane Kiffin.
