After years of criticizing coaches and getting every nonsense enabling defense of incompetent BS hucksters from some people, Coach Pruitt has come in and said everything that I've felt needs to be said and focused upon. No gimmicky crap with uniforms or Volympics. No exultation of secondary bowl accomplishments. Better practices with an intent on hitting the weight room hard. No running down of players to prop himself up. No excuse making about how hard it is to win here while having to play Georgia, Florida, Alabama, etc.

I like this approach very much. No excuses, no BS, just go after it and get better, get wins. I hope this filters into all discussions of current and future UT coaches in all sports.

Blind faith, hope and optimism, everyone has that this time of year.

Nobody has any clue whether Pruitt will win titles or if he’ll be gone in 3 years.

No need to filter to basketball. Barnes has been shooting straight since the day he arrived.

But I do agree the lack of gimmicks and corny motivational book cliches is refreshing.

That's not the point. I'm not being spoon fed a bunch of nonsense cliché sayings, stupid ass gimmicks like Volympics or anything ancillary to accomplishing the goal of being a successful program.

So, no, we haven't won anything, but his approach is the one I've hoped to see from a long time on the Hill.

We will surely find something else to whine about , we always do. We will start breaking down every word he says as soon as the season starts.

If I see a trash can on the sidelines or hear complementary football anywhere near this program, I'll puke.

Am I the only one who thought the "circle of life" thing was stupid?

Other coaches do it. The totality of it all with the black stripes, running to the other end at each quarter, third down chant and fists up stuff was too much to manage. They have a lot of such traditions at A&M but it’s been developed throughout the years. Butch plopped all this down first season.

Leading up to Pruitt's press conference on Wednesday after finishing 20th in the rankings, I wondered how he was going to try and "sell" this class to the fans. However refreshingly the answer to that was...he didn't. He didn't do that. He simply got behind the podium and listed the signees by name, position, and measurements. He never one time tried to sell us on the idea of being excited for this class. It was very straight forward and matter of fact. I thought he handled it perfectly. After listening to a snake oil salesman the last 5 years, it was so refreshing to have a straight shooter actually TALK to us instead trying to bull**** us.

So do I. I forgot about the Volympics. And Jones' silly NSD game show host program a couple years ago.

Silly? Maybe. But, It was sure nice to have a live stream of NSD out of our building. With ESP, it's kind of a letdown now tho.

But, OPs point is well taken in the sense that a leader/coach has to streamline priorities and excel in what really matters. All the extracurriculars had to be taken focus away from the last guy.

Good idea to get back to recruiting, player development, staff cohesion, and game planning. Those are enough things to work on without running a marketing and promo department too. That said, can we actually beat Vandy?

:eek:lol:

I watched Saban's post-natty presser. He used the word "resiliency" more than once. I about swallowed my tongue!

These days, keeping guys on the straight and narrow, out of jail/headlines is one of the biggest hurdles(see florida last year). I love to see players who have/show respect, for the game, themselves, the team, just be classy

Wait a minute, you simply don't understand it is 2018! Kids today have been given "participation trophies" and told they are the best at everything. We can't do this disciplined approach! We may destroy their self-esteem! We need to be more sensitive to the internal feelings of our children and not focus so much on setting standards that some cannot achieve. After all, are we not all equal? All these PC psychologists have been preaching this for years now and we now finally have developed, as a society, where everyone is well adjusted and ready to take on life and deal with both success and failure.

I dare Coach Pruitt being honest and realistic with his players instilling values that will allow them to go far in life! He needs to become more educated in the PC way we do things today!

:)

Having the show was fine, but Jones couldn't help himself but making it cringey with gimmicks; like the time he would literally go stack a brick for every announcement.

If you’re going to inundate your program with moronic cliche’s and goofy analogies, you dang well better know how to win. If you don’t, well then see what happened to Butch.
