Does anybody know if he was the primary play caller when he was at Western Kentucky?

Why did he decide to have a "smaller role" when hired by his brother at USC?

Helton at Western Kentucky was working as OC for Brohm so I'd guess that Brohm had lots of input on play calls but you can bet that Helton learned a huge amount working for that coach.

Then Helton went to USC for lots more $$$ working for his brother.

Just more guesses but it seems that Tee Martin will stay at USC until something big comes his way because Tees wife thinks she's going to hit it big as a singer/actor.

Tee is also kept at USC because he's seen as a good recruiter.

In the bowl game without Tye Helton to help Tee we saw the USC O do basically nothing and look really bad.

Keep in mind that Coach Friend is also a experienced OC so don't be surprised if both Helton and Friend work together in some ways for our Tennessee O.

Pruitt will be back on the hill soon so we'll see how things shake out as the staff is finalised and which coach is assigned to do what specifically.

As good of guesses as I can make at this point my friend.

Brohm called the plays at Western. As to why he decided to have a “smaller” role at USC, probably because he wanted to work with his brother and the fact that going from WKU to SC is a major step up, regardless of position or title.

Lol. He was the the de facto play caller at USC. And he was the chief playcaller for WKU with his time there. I love the all of the sudden freakout over Helton.

think we get an announcement today on the WR coach?

I think that's possible if our new WR coach is coming from the college ranks.

If our new WR coach is coming from the NFL and his team is still in the playoffs then the announcement might be delayed until his team is no longer in the playoffs or the Superbowl is over.

The sooner the better as far as I'm concerned because top WR recruits might really want to know some things about their position coach and I can't blame them for that.

Either way everyone will know long before NSD and that's the most important thing.

Pruitt told a WR recruit that he would be able to meet his coach this weekend on his visit. So...we should be hearing something this week.

So the two glaring openings are WR and Special Teams. Unless one of the coaches in place is ST.

i think ST will have to be covered by someone else (double duty), or by a GA type, with the 10 on field rule. WR will be the last full time on field coach hired.

iirc that is...

I haven't really researched the 10 rule, but is that just coordinators or coordinators + head coach?

So, Pruitt pulls a Saban and hires in some "technical advisers."

And watch the NCAA squirm over trying to pull a doulbe standard.
i think that's probably about right. short amount of time to get where you want to be, so more eyes on what's going on, spotting and correcting issues faster, evaluating faster....3 weeks til NSD, so this class needs wrapped up and you want to move on to 19 and 20 ASAP....so take advantage of as many resources as you can get for as long as you can.

So, back to ST and WR.

Unless there's a glaring opening I'm missing somewhere.

On the non-football, but related situation, I'm wondering who Fulmer is going to tap as the VFL Coordinator. I don't think it would happen, but I'd love to get Al Wilson into that spot.
