Never thought I'd see the day the SEC had such poor showings in the bowl season. Pruitt will do well in conference matchups. I don't feel so good about bowl championships.

Not sure it's talent or coaching. I think the rest of the country has improved. UCF would beat Auburn 10 of 10 times. Nebraska will be there in 3 years. Memphis would have had a winning record in the SEC this year.

Poor overall QB talent in the league.. It matters

This x10000 we won games because we had Dobbs who was average to really good. UGA is winning for a great freshman, Kentucky will be down next year when Johnson leaves. SEC hasn’t had an elite QB since Cam.

I am disappointed too at the SEC post season but you have to remember how many of those programs had either a new coach or an interim coach. Mississippi State found a way to win with an interim staff but that is the exception. Arkansas and A&M looked disjointed with the staffing game and let's be honest, Coach O is not cutting it at LSU.

In our conference, new coaches happen as a result of 9-3 seasons. It is a new norm to not win 10 games. If we figure that out first, we'll be back in the running every year.

I predict we won't.

No way! Memphis cannot play defense. And they can be stopped.

If the sec is weakened, what does that say about the rest of college football.

SEC east vs SEC West = National Champion

South Carolina didn't look weak. Florida most likely will be better. To move up the standings TN has to regain the late season mojo it lost about 10 years ago when they started losing to Vandy, etc. on a regular basis, and additionally win the West game that isn't Alabama. Based on last night I am gaining confidence that Pruitt wil accomplish these things once he has established his culture. Growing pains will occur, but overall outlook is improving.

The East shouldn't be any worse than it's been the past 2-3 seasons.

In fact, it should be much improved because of coaching upgrades.

Smart is building a monster in Athens, Mullen is a big upgrade for us, and even that caveman Muschamp appears to be evolving.

Muschamp should scare everybody in the East. If that dude ever gets the offensive side of the ball figured out to go with his defensive genius, watch out

You have to keep in mind that with two teams in the playoffs, the other SEC teams had to "play up" a few slots. The Big 10 played well, but had no teams in the playoffs. This allowed them to put their best teams on the field in the regular bowl games. If you slide AL and GA out of the playoffs and then rematch the teams, the SEC would have fared much better.

Arkansas didn’t go to a bowl

Smart scares me more than Muschamp at the moment.

But Muschamp is definitely improving as a head coach.

they're both elevating their respective programs. Muschamp at a slower rate because he didn't inherit the same type of team Smart did.

GA will look a lot different next year, they're losing a lot.

the bad news is that Smart looks to be every bit the recruiter that can take advantage of the in state talent down there.

i think the SECE is about to get really good again. the talent level is going to rise, and i think you have the makings of what could be 5-6 pretty darn good coaches.

we'll see what Pruitt does on the field, but i have zero doubt the talent level in Knoxville is about to trend up.

I agree, mainly because smart hired an experienced Jim Cheney to run his offense, and because the state of ga is loaded with talent.

Keep an eye on SC offensively though. If they start scoring, with muschamp who can frustrate any offense, sc could start winning the East.

I love his defensive intelligence. He's got it. Lord help us if he figures out offense. That's how bill bellichick turned into the monster he became. He mastered the defensive side then later in his career got the offensive side figured out.

It will be interesting to see the evolution of the SEC over the next 3-5 years. Right now, the league overall is fairly weak outside of Alabama and Georgia. Auburn is pretty close. But then it's a pretty steep drop-off.

I'll admit I'm surprised that Kirby Smart has UGA at the level they're at. It's very possible that the balance of power shifts back to the SEC East very soon. Or, it may be that both divisions are equally strong. My prediction is that we're going to see the traditional powers rise to the top, and teams like Kentucky, Vandy, Missouri, Mississippi State, etc, fall to the bottom with more dominance seen from those powers over the bottom teams.

Hopefully, CJP was the right choice to lead the Vols back into the hierarchy of the SEC. Question is how long will it take him and will the fans be patient while he gets there???

I'm not askeered of his recruiting.
With the new coaching/recruiting talent in the East division, he's going to have a hard time drawing Blue Chip recruits to Columbia. Minus elite recruits, he'll have a hard time getting over the hump.
