Pruitt Is Not An Inspirational Coach....Period

I agree that he's not inspirational in his leadership style. He is not going to develop a cult of personality unless it is through excellence--results.

But that's okay. Plenty of very successful coaches have had blunt, uninspiring personalities. Woody Hayes and Nick Saban come to mind first; there are many others.

Coaching football is not a beauty contest, and it's not a popularity contest. There is no correlation between personal magnetism and coaching success. Not in this sport.

In short: I think you're right, but it doesn't much matter.

Go Vols!

It was interesting to hear how short he was with Bob after that game. I know the Saban's of the world can get away with this, but when you put up 190 yards against Charlotte, maybe the people listening to the broadcast would like an answer to why you thought your team struggled.

He's got an interesting personally for sure

Were the tears after the GA game not inspirational enough? Lol

I agree with this sentiment. Here’s the thing as fans: we don’t see a lick of what goes on behind closed doors.

All of Pruitts former players love him and recruits come to him bc he is a players coach. That’s why he can coach these guys as hard as he does and they don’t take it personally. We don’t know what he tells them when the cameras aren’t around but if you’re a bland jerk then why would top notch recruits (who usually have egos and have been catered to their entire lives) want to come into your program, work hard in your program, and most importantly stay in your program?

It’s bc he is a personable guy- we just don’t see it.

He is certainly no Bruce Pearl.

So you’d rather have CJP lie and sugarcoat about the players performance? Do you miss Trumpet Boy’s endless cliches, forcing us to be happy with 7-8 wins and meaningless bowl games?

Good thing he’s not being paid to suit your well being.

I disagree. He inspired some of the best 'Bama defenses they've ever had. Just because he doesn't sell snake oil to the fans doesn't mean he can't motivate players.
Were bama defense s inspired prior to him? Sorry just trying to see if there is a common denominator? They certainly seemed inspired last night as well.

We could use a Coach O type that can get players ready to run through a wall. You would think only having 12 games and working 365 days a year for those 12 games would be enough motivation, but its clearly not.

Eventually the players are going to have to step up their quality of play, or like CJP stated, "we'll find new ones." Saban and Belichek inspire by passing out rings year after year.
We will find new ones each year to replace the old ones that graduate. But I think CJP needs to evaluate his entire roster postseason and cut some players loose. If he sees they not only will never progress to a level of play needed and additionally will be a negative influence due to poor effort, he might be better off encouraging those to leave. Those may include some Butch clingers who don't see a personal need to adapt to the new coaching demands. You can look at a roster and spot some scholarship players who have never seen the field and probably never will. If their practice effort is bad and it seems obvious they are not role models for newcomers, Pruitt might be better served by weeding them out of his program and using walk-ons to fill the numbers. Change the culture quicker this way. Think Saban did something similar starting out at Bama.
