PruITt has the IT factor, will be better than ANY UT HC not named NEYLAND

To be fair, OP, I could read this same thread here on Kiffin, Dooley, and especially on Butch, all 3 were the best coach since Neyland. Nothing wrong with it, all teams do it and no reason not to be excited but I’d hold off on best ever.

Wrong as none of those guys have the 10 yr background as JP does!

👍

OP, I said this the day he was hired. It's in the archives for all to see. The only problem keeping him is the loser mentality many UT administrators and fans have. The mentality everyone should have is the same mentality Bama has regarding Saban. We are going to make you so happy here, you have no desire to leave. That's how you keep a big time coach no matter who comes calling. You show him / her verbally and financially!!!!

Uhhhhh...

Ok. Calling this shot pretty far in advance. I do like the optimism, but you sound kind of crazy.

Keep it up. :)

I don’t think the weight of command is a burden for confident risk takers like Pruitt. They tend to assume success and never consider failure.
I have known several people like this and when they do fail they are the most surprised person in the room. They just never considered failure.
They then start over assuming they will succeed.

If I were in Pruitt’s shoes and I had built TN into a contender, would I leave for UA to replace Saban? Not on your life.
TN fans will be happy contending for a natty, UA fans will be POd if they don’t win it.
Any coach stupid enough to follow Saban is a coach we don’t want. UA will not get an elite coach to follow Saban, unless he plans to retire in 3 years. UA will pay to much for a good coach and fail.

I'm very nervous that Nick Saban will retire in 2-3 seasons and Coach Pruitt will be off to Alabama when the AD of Alabama wants to interview him and Tennessee will have to search for another head football coach.

Me too. I hope when Saban does retire that UA goes after Pruitt, then Dabo, then Smartt, and has to settle for Kiffin or better yet someone not even as good as Kiffin.

Right now i think Dabo would stay at Clemson because he's got it easy there compared to the pressure he would get from fans at Alabama. I think Alabama would then talk to Jimbo Fisher and then to Coach Pruitt.

Eh. Some of those jumps in ppg is negligible like granthams 2nd and the second half of his 3rd year were really good. His 4th year was replacing a lot of players from the sec runner up team. He’s undoubtedly a good dc. But so much more goes into being a hc to just go off of dc success. Way to many coordinators have failed. He knows defense now can he manage a roster, 105 egos, coaches, media.
His recent media relations with Rucker is cute now, but will get old if he doesn’t follow that up with 10+ win seasons. Can’t be a prick and slightly above average

My ex wife would disagree with that statement.

Dabo is never leaving Clemtech, I say that with full confidence unfortunately. Fisher is locked in for the rest of his coaching career on his new contract likely. To assume Pruitt would be 3rd in line 3-5 years from now is a big assumption. Even if that were the case, very doubtful he leaves UT for a rival and follows in Saban’s tracks. Highly unlikely, because if he is being considered for that job at that time it means he has built UT back up to national contender status and if so why in the world would he jump ship then?

On a similar note, there are some SC fans already worried if Muschamp has another 2 very good seasons that he will leave for a bigger job. That kind of thinking is missing the forest for the trees and tbh is self defeating.

Ok, I know some of you are going to call me crazy. It's all good. I still predict CJP will be better than anyone not named Neyland as UT's HFC as long as WE CAN KEEP HIM HERE for atleast 15 years. It will be tough. Lots of teams are going to want to take him away from us. I hope we can keep him here. I am not going to ramble on with words. Here are facts that have happened that lead me to make such a bold statement.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUCCESS AT FSU:

2013 DC (1st year) lead FSU D that allowed 170 points in 14 games for 12.14 ppga with 3 RETURNING STARTERS on D

2012 (yr before CJP) Mark Stoops, DC (3rd year) lead D that allowed 206 points in 14 games for 14.71 ppga with 8 returning starters on D

In 2014 (year after CJP), Charles Kelly, DC (1st year) lead D that allowed 358 points in 14 games for 25.57 ppga with 8 returning starters on D

FSU'S recruiting classes averaged 7th from 2009 to 2013, MEANING STOOPS and Kelly had just as much talent and 5 MORE RETURNING STARTERS than CJP ....... (Kelly's freshman class in 2014 was 4th in the nation)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUCCESS AT UGA:

2014 DC (1st year) lead D that allowed 269 points in 13 games for 20.69 ppga (couldn't find returning starters on D)

2015 DC (2nd year) lead D that allowed 200 points in 13 games for 15.38 ppga (couldn't find returning starters on D)

2013 (yr before CJP), Todd Grantham, DC (4th year) lead D that allowed 377 points in 13 games for 29 ppga (same as above on returning D)

2016 (yr after CJP), Mel Tucker, DC (1st year) lead D that allowed 312 points in 13 games for 24 ppga (same as above on returning D)
NOTE: Mel Tucker and Kirby Smart were coaching a D that gave up almost 9 ppg more than Pruitt's D

UGA'S recruiting classes averaged 9th from 2010 to 2016. Grantham probably didn't have quite as much talent due to UGA getting better classes from Pruitt's first year to Mel Tuckers first year as DC. However, Tucker/Smart had more talent and allowed close to 9 ppg more as already noted.

Todd Grantham may turn out to be a great DC at UF. I hope not!!! MSU was like 26th in D in 2015 before Peter Sirmon got there in 2016 and turned the D into about 93rd in the country in ppga. Next year, 2017 Grantham lead MSU to the 23rd ranked D in the nation in PPGA!!! Regardless, CJP will have UT's D at an ELITE LEVEL as long as UT can be in the top 10-12 in recruiting every year and 3-4 in the conference every year. CJP is going to make GREAT PLAYERS ELITE!!! (LOOK FOR TAYLOR TO BE A STUD DB and that move to look more genius as the season progresses!!!) I think Kongo is going to be a whole different player this year as well.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SUCCESS AT BAMA:

2016 DC (1st year) lead D that allowed 195 points in 15 games for 13 ppga with 5 RETURNING STARTERS ON D

2017 DC (2nd year) lead D that allowed 167 points in 15 games for 11.9 ppga with 8 RETURNING STARTERS ON D

2015 (yr before CJP) Kirby Smart, DC (8th year) lead D that allowed 227 points in 15 games for 15.1 ppg with 5 returning starters on D, SAME AS CJP had his FIRST YEAR! Note: this was Kirby's 8th year with Saban and CJP did better his first year with Saban as DC with same returning starters filled with 4 and 5 star guys.

Of course, BAMA had Number 1 recruiting classes all years besides 2015 ( Number 2 ) class. So, CJP and Smart had arguably the same talent to field a D. Yes, it is Saban's D. But, CJP MADE Saban's and Smart's D BETTER!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other notes:

Most or all of you know CJP assembled an all star coaching staff which MAY BE CLOSE TO or MAY BE one of best staffs or the best in the nation! Butch was full of BS when he said that is what he was doing. The only great coach he brought was Thig as a recruiter and Debord as an OC. Yes, Debord had Dobbs. But, the records wouldn't exist without great OC play calling.

Most of you also know Will Friend was at UGA with Pruitt, Pruitt's first year. Friend's OL's were in the 30s in rushing each of his 4 years at CSU with 5.3 to 5.5 star OL. I mentioned this a while back in another thread. Friend is going to COACH UP THE OL.

Kevin Sherrer and Tracy Rocker may have followed Pruitt to UGA, not sure. Does anyone know? I just thought it was peculiar that all three were in their first year at UGA together. If so, that would be a good sign. Rocker knows D and I am sure he knows CJP is one of the best DC's in college football, if not the best, with or without Saban on the sidelines or on the headphones. We do know both Kevin Sherrer and Tracy Rocker started sames year as Pruitt at UGA and came to UT due to Pruitt. I am wondering why Rocker was FIRED BY UGA. Does anyone know???
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When Mike Bobo and Will Friend left UGA. UGA's OFFENSE WENT DOWN 15.7 PPG. They were both in their 3rd year at UGA. Let that sink in for a moment. Another food for thought, CSU'S rushing offense rushed for 194 a game last year. They just rushed for 116 against Hawaii that GAVE UP 210 RUSHING YARDS per game last season. Maybe Mike Bobo isn't all that great of a HC/OC without Will Friend. We will find out soon. Maybe Will Friend was the master behind the curtain and Pruitt plucked him from CSU to be Co-Offensive Coordinator with Helton. I am not an insider. But, I bet that is the reason CJP didn't get along with Richt and respect him was due to some offensive inadequacies. Richt is a great man and great coach. But, he isn't an elite coach. There is a difference between great and ELITE!!! I bet CJP wanted some things done differently on O or D to dictate the games to get the W's. Maybe Pruitt had a problem with Richt letting Will Friend go. The games UGA lost Pruitt's last year was primarily because of Georgia's offense, NOT PRUITT'S D!!! Can you guys say, hmmmm??? Give that a thought for a while!!! =)

WILL FRIEND'S OLs at Georgia in RUSHING YARDAGE:

2011 47th
2012 38th
2013 54th

2014 11th

AFTER being 37th in 2007, 59th in 2008, 58th in 2009, and 76th in 2010 (Bobo's other 4 years as UGA's OC). Will Friend's OL COACHING AT UGA played a HUGE ROLE in Bobo getting HC job at CSU and CSU'S Offensive success the last three years at CSU, bank on it!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Helton has said that CJP HAS A GREAT OFFENSIVE MIND!!! That would make sense. Right? You have to know offense inside and out to be AN ELITE DC!!!

Predictions:

Guys and Volly (only gal I know on here, LOL), CJP is atmospheres above all in knowledge and schemes than what we have had in a decade. Think about what caliber of coach that was hired in CDD and CBJ and most of the assistants. They didn't really do that much in very weak conferences. Think about what CJP has done in 5 short years as a DC. He has rose to the top quicker than any, even Smart!!! When Jimbo Fisher, Mark Richt, and Nick Saban want you as there DC and can pretty much have anyone in the country they want. You are an ELITE DC and have an ELITE DEFENSIVE MIND. Everyone knows D wins championships.

VOLS WIN AT LEAST 8 THIS YEAR!!! Wins vs ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte, UK, MIZZ, and VU, losses to UGA and UA, and pick up two more wins between games with WVU, UF, AU, and USC.

PruITt has the IT that will WIN BIG HERE and it will happen very SOON. That soon is happening this year. Unlike, the soon that never happened with Gruden!!!

By the way, Saban went 7-6 with two 5 star players and thirty 4 star players on the Bama roster his first year. PruITt has a roster this year with UT that has three 5 star players and thirty two 4 star players. Will he do as good as Saban did his first year? I am predicting he will. We shall see!!! =)

GO VOLS!!!

I have more confidence in Jeremy Pruitt than any coach at UT since Fulmer, but that doesn't mean squat, until he actually proves us all right or wrong, what ever the case may be.
What does matter, is that the players buying in and play Pruitt's brand of football.

Vol nation stands proudly behind you coach Pruitt

Go Vols

CJP is making all the right moves in the pre-season, but there are lots of coaches that are successful in some aspected on or off the field that are not program CEO material. We won't really have a pitcure of how good he is until this time next year, and even then we will have a small sample size. The most important tenants of coaching (not neccesarily in this order) that need to be proven:
1. Game management/decisions
2. Player buyin/ accountability
3. Player/coach development
4. Withstanding aversity on the field and off
5. Recruiting/retention of blue chip players

Only once these things have had time to develope will we begin to paint the picture and know if he has the salt to have his name mentioned with the Sabans, Myers, Mullens and Smarts in college football.
