I know I ride him pretty hard sometimes about the loose coverage, but once he gets everyone playing together and everyone in the right positions, he does an admirable job. Tennessee has always produced top d/l since he has been there and the guys on d know how to lay the lumber. That 4th down stop late yesterday was key to winning the game. So props to you coach Chavis!Well done!

Thanks, utfantilidie, glad to see the "Chief" get some positive remarks. I was very impressed with the D especially the last 2 games. I too worry about the DB's lining up 12 yards off wisc WRs...geez. Is Slade back or gone?

Chavis definitely did what he could with this defense. The only problem I had in the Outback bowl with the defense was giving them a mile on their last drive. If Wardlow didn't make his INT in the endzone, it could have been ugly.

I'm just very thankful that PJ Hill off tackle wasn't the 4th down play call.

Ditto. :lolabove: The D has really steped it up the last couple of games. It is nice to see more of that ole Chauvis charm (laying the wood, stunts, disguising the defensive schemes, etc). I would really like to see a John Henderson/ Albert Haynesworth road block at DT for interior run d, but even with the guys out for the game, the D rocked (Berry & Hefney & the secondary- wow!) I don't know about everyone else- but watching our guys knock the snot out of the QB makes up for giving up 15-yard receptions. Next year looks very promising. One or two new (mabye young or recruited) big playmakers could really put us over the top.

I think the only 2 OC's in the country who wouldn't run Hill on that play were in the stadium.

Not that I'm upset but it was an odd call.

Hard as it is to believe, Wisconsin playcalling was worse than ours. I'm not sure why Wisconsin ever needed to call a pass play.

Agreed on Chavis. I have never thought he was the problem in terms of caoching. He is lacking in horses over the last couple of years. His D played good in Atlanta and Tampa.

More props to Chavis. The D really improved over the year as they gained experience. I'm actually pretty excited about our D for next year... while it won't be up to 2001 or 1998 standards, it should be our best since 2005.

Dan Williams and Bolden may just turn into above average SEC DTs before next fall... Moreover, we'll start turning the dogs loose on the opposing QBs now that our DBs will be a seasoned group.

i didn't see anything too awful on the last drive. Wisconsin was out of timeouts and running out of time. them getting the ball to midfield wasn't so big of an accomplishment. give up little yardage to avoid the big play. the badgers went for the big play and wardlow was playing centerfield and made a great play.

I was proud of "Chief" and the "D". Things began to materialize as the year progressed and I can say that I look forward to a dominating defense when the 2008 season rolls around.

Just hope that our DBs play the opposing WRs a little closer.

Arkansas utilized their fullback on 4th and short, over Darren McFadden, in the game up here. I'd say that dumber than what the Badgers did.

I don't know bill. They had the ball around midfield with 46 seconds left. That could've easily gone sour for us.

Considering we had Antonio Wardlow as the only line of defense between winning and losing....I'd say I was a lot worried.

They did something similar against a huge 3rd or 4th down when they played us, I believe. Seems like it was 4th, and they didn't give the ball to McFadden or Jones.

Back to the thread, I have to agree. The D, despite giving up chunks of ground at a time; have made HUGE plays when they have had to. They have kept us in some games at the end, we should have won easily if the O had been there like it needed to be in the second half.

Look out next year cuz this D is coming at em hot and heavy. I give Chavis congrats for making something out of... not so much.
