Is this a good or bad thing for the Vols?

SEC football coaches want early signing period | www.tennessean.com | The Tennessean

My take is that it has been a long while since the Vols snaked anyone away from their verbal. However, if you believe what comes out of Fulmer's mouth, the Vols have been on the receiving end of some last minute shennanigans from silent commits. Either way, I think this could be a good thing. It should allow bowl-bound teams to focus more on thier postseason.

I dunno. I'd be more worried guys like Eric Berry or Lennon Creer would just be more likely to sign with UGA or Texas. With the amount of recruiting we do out of state, I think a longer recruiting period helps us.

It's idiotic because of the disclaimer of "If a player has taken an official visit, they cannot sign in the early period."

That's downright dumb.

It would bother other conferences for sure. But mostly it just seems it would let kids who know where they want to go and have probably known where they wanted to go since they were 12, get the deal over with.

I think, as Saban said, it would allow programs to avoid "babysitting" solid commits when they really need to be focusing on flipping other programs' soft commits and knocking off fence sitters.

I like the idea of having it for this reason. The no official part of it is stupid, but if we can lock up 2-3 kids at least each early period it would let coaches definately spend more time on other visits and lower the stress level of having someone pay them $20k in Feb to sign elsewhere.
