Problems with Charter....

I have the 10MB/1MB package. I currently am seeing a 996ms ping to Dallas with 500kbs down and 120kbs up. This sucks and I am not the only one as my buddy has Charter and is experiencing the say thing. So at least it's not my physical connection here at the house.

I have a charter 5MB connection and rarely get over 1500 down and 750 up. Is there anybody else using your network?

Charter guarantees at least 70% of your connection package. If your getting 1.5MB down then you should call and see what the hell is up. As far as my network, no just me, my wife, and daughter. They don't pull any bandwidth at all like I do and even when they are on it it never drops below 8MB down.

You could just have a burnt out drop, a CLI leak somewhere on your service node, due to water through a torn jacket, someone making an illegal hookup, or a line extender shot somewhere on your node.

Talk to your neighbors, see if they are having problems, internet wise or pixellation on the high channels, call them and complain.

Someone will come out, document it, if the problem continues, call again, and again, and again.

I had full speed this morning and just got a 58ms ping with 10.5MB down to Dallas, TX. It's not my hardware, it's somewhere in the network grid. My buddy has Charter and was going through the same thing yesterday and the past week or so. It's fixed now, but we will see if that lasts.

Most CATV plants haven't been upgraded for 7-10 years, maybe longer if you're off the beaten path some.

The last upgrades were great for CATV, and can hold their own with Digital Cable. but there is only so much flow available for the Digital CATV, Cable internet, and voice over IP.

If you have hot and cold times, it's probably because your local plant is tapped out. If it is bad between 5-10pm, odds are it is because everyone between you and your nearest amplifier is online or watching tv.

Actually this is the first time in over a year that I have had any sort of issue what so ever. Charter has been pretty reliable up till the past week.
