I feel like if Dylan ran a good 40 the team would’ve posted it.

Kind of surprised no real info about the pro day has come out yet.

WR Dont'e Thornton Jr.

On hitting a 4.30 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine...
"Oh yeah, the whole training period that definitely was my goal to hit 4.3. At first, I didn't know what I ran because they do not show the first time at the Combine. So after I ran, I didn't think I ran a good time, but then I started hearing people say what I ran and I got really excited. I called my uncle. Everybody was happy for me. I surprised myself when I ran it."

Not a great speed at his size

Not the quickest 40 time of anyone in the NFL...sure. Sampson literally never got caught from beside or behind this entire season though in which he led the SEC in rushing. Outran every DB in the SEC once he saw daylight. Running track sprints are one thing...running in pads with a ball in your hand is another. In pads, Dylan was as fast as anybody in the SEC. We all saw what happens when he gets a crease to green grass. Give. Him. Six. Theres a reason that Sampson is the all-time single season record holder now at UT. He had it all in 2024...speed, vision, lateral quickness, and power. Thankful that he is a VOL. Hope he has a great career in the NFL.

I can recall at least one time he was run down in the AR game because 1) it surprised me and 2) it was was our own former DB Doneiko Slaughter that caught him.

Still Sampson seems pretty well vetted and if he lands in the right place I can see him succeeding.

4.46 - 4.49 is not bad for someone coming off a hamstring injury which would limit training.

Running a straight line 40 from a sprinters position is an odd way to measure speed for a football player who doesn’t start with a hand in the dirt anyways.

Running backs should be measured exactly how they would be running in a game. Small jog up to a “line of scrimmage”, one cut and then 40 yards from that spot.
