In all honestly, the chances of us getting a big name pro coach are pretty slim but rumors have circulated that Gruden would like to coach in college. Obviously UT would be in atleast around the top of his ideal college coaching jobs. He has publicly denied, but that is the nature of the business. I say based on speculation, it wouldn't surprise me if he came here at seasons end. It's not like he can even act very interested until his NFL duties are completely settled. Cowher isn't really in any tie ups with the NFL but his contract in broadcasting may be keeping him quiet, although I don't think he's even much of a possibility.

I need some statistic type guru's for this!

I am arguing with some guys in my Fantasy Football League and they are all Alabama fans and they are talking trash and we started arguing that the SEC East is tougher than the SEC West.

They think that LSU,Alabama, Auburn matchup with Florida,Georgia,Tennessee.

I need some good information to end this argument.

The west is as weak as its been in years. That is part of Alabama's success. I am not taking anything away from them, but LSU is a middle tier bowl team this year and beyond that there isn't really anyone that is close. Auburn is sunk down in there with the Ole miss's and Miss St's. Not sure I would argue Tennessee as being that 3rd team in the east though. The East is hands down stronger this year and most years.

You can start with the fact that the East has won 10 of the 16 SEC championships since the divisions were formed.

Your thread states that they are still a good possibility and then you contradict yourself by saying he isn't much of a possibility. Make up your mind. I think they are both pipe dreams myself.

Just a little comparasin of East vs. West teams
Florida - LSU
UGA - Auburn
UT - Alabama
So. Carolina - Arkansas
UK - Ole Miss
Vandy - Miss. State

LSU has been very solid, just like Florida has been. Auburn had some awesome teams, just like UGA did. UT and Bama were up and down and match up well. Arkansas and So. Carolina are not perennial powers, but always give teams fits and knock off teams they shouldn't. UK and Ole Miss had a good year or two, but are mostly down. Vandy and Miss State are usually the doormats. The best team in the rankings usually comes from the East, but LSU has won 2 NC's since 2003, no team in the East can come close to that. Florida has the best talent, but they can be shut down on offense. The spread they run is not an offense that the SEC faces often. Just like the defense Saban runs is not what many teams face. You want to compare all 85 players I'll take the talent and speed Florida has over any team in the nation except for USC. Every team in the West has gone to Atlanta, only 3 teams in the East have gone.

Strength of division can not be decided by one dominate team. I believe over the course of the SEC Championship, the East and West have been pretty much neck and neck up until the game itself. Which Florida has pretty much dominated except a few years when they lost....2 of them coming from Alabama.....in years when Florida was highly favored.

Your right I did go back on that. More or less, i was speaking more to Gruden. I think he's a very good possibility. I think we have as good of a chance to get him at this point as Alabama did after Saban said "I am not gonna be Alabamas head coach".

The east is better this year. Florida will lay that argument to rest in a couple of weeks.

When Saban said that the Miami Dolphins stunk. Tampa Bay is right in the hunt for a decent playoff run.

I really don't see Gruden coming to UT.

0% chance of Gruden and if UT wants to keep most recruits, they will have a coach before the NFL season ends.

I keep saying this...but Kiffin or TURNER GILL (I like him...look at the HUGE upside...young, made Buffalo decent, and .....sorry, but a minority canidate that would really be a plus)

Zero chance of it happening...Gruden doesn't want to coach college ball, If He did he would already be doing it...He's not coming, Take him off your list

Turner Gil will definitely be a good HC. I just don't think he's even in the running. But what he has done at Buffalo has been pretty remarkable.

Kiffin - no college HC experience
Gruden- no college experience
Cowher- please....
Kelley - Cinnci and Grand Valley ST

Gill.....3 yrs at Buffalo, won 3 NC's with Nebraska as a player or coach, position coach for Tommy Frazier and eric Crouch, and a Green Bay packer as a WR coach and Dir. of player dev. Not bad! for a young coach with huge upside that can recruit and built a program from scratch. I really think UT should look hard at him. i am not a minority, but what a coup for a program like a UT to hire him. It could be a great bonus for the university. Think about 2 things: 1) he would be very good and 2) look at the positive pub UT would get around the country! JMO!!!!!

Turner is a good coach but comparing him to kelly is night and day and Gruden won a superbowl.

Gruden and Cowher are not coming to UT! That needs to stop.

I (me...jmo) would rather have Gill than Kelley. He is someone that needs to be looked at for MANY reasons.

I'm not being a smart a$$, tell me what the infatuation is around here is with Brian Kelley. if he is hired...I will back him to the nth degree. I just don't get it! SOMEONE ENLIGHTEN ME!

grad assis for a year and Kiffin (who I like alot) did nothing at USC. That was (is) Pete Carroll. Kiffin was mad he was not given the reigns to call plays.

I have no idea why you are in Gill's jock so much...He's proven nothing yet as a HC..He's at a tiny school that gets snowbound during the winter...He's not even being mentioned in ANY of the other coaching searches around the country for Clemson or others...Let it go

I would most certainly take Kiffin over Gill everyday and twice on sunday...But that's just my opinion and it doesn't add up to a hill of beans lol
