I’m hanging my hat on smokescreen. Price put this out and everyone ran with it as though he’s hired. Maybe a smokescreen, maybe they talked. Regardless as far as we know Huepel has not been hired yet meaning there’s still hope we get somebody we can all be happy with. I still don’t know how we don’t at least have a conversation with Freeze, Kiffin, or Chadwell who, from all accounts, would love to be here and would likely have success. Hopefully we wake up to better news tomorrow.

See that’s not how it works. Let me break it down for you.

A beat writer puts on Twitter that a source has said a candidate has emerged. Emerged. Not interviewed, vetted or anything else.

The keyboard coaches of VN hit google and decide how good or bad said coach is regardless of the situation or context.

Next, said coach is basically hired because VN says so. Then VN stammers on and on about how bad said coach is, how he cannot win here, we stuck forever and White is a terrible AD even though he has only been at the job for. a week.

This is how it works.

Uh huh. A coach that basically told TN to go f*** itself, a coach that would try if he had another burner phone and one that is just another Butch Jones/Dooley.

Pass.

Nobody knows that we haven’t had conversations with those coaches. There isn’t a person besides Danny White that knows anything concrete.

I agree. However, if we trot Heupel out to the podium, all but the pumpiest of pumpers will be lost.

If this is the only option, let Steele carry us a year, and give yourself a solid year to find the right candidate.

You are gonna have to explain why Heupel is so terrible. What box doesn’t he check for us right now?

I’m just trying to be realistic. If any one of those three were on the table, you really think it would have taken this long? Seriously?
That’s a fair point. I’m just basing it off “reporting” that we haven’t spoken with any of them. I know nothing other than what I read and hear. Just a long time die hard fan looking for some ray of optimism. My son is 19 and loves the Vols as much as I do. However he’s never seen their success like in the 90’s and I’d love to eventually get there so he can. Looks like it’s going to be a long wait...

You forgot the part about having their opinion given to them by Clay Travis or some other buffoon. But all-in-all, pretty spot on.

If it is Heupel I think it might be a good move for him to keep Ansley if he can get him to stay. The more familiarity with system on defense could be a big plus. Keep Ansley at DC/DB, Steele and Simon at LB, and Rodney Gardner on the D-line I think would allow Heupel to make some real progress his first year if he was the hire.

For some reason I think it is going to be somebody that hasn't been on anybody's radar and be someone we will not only be happy with but need. Maybe I have to much faith in Danny White but I just think he is going about this in a way we aren't remotely use too and it's something that the news media that covers UT their resources have dried up and they can't figure it out so their throwing names at wall hoping somebody's sticks.

You watch any games this year?
Like I said in my original because of the familiarity with the players and because of the system and also being so close to training camp I think it would be wise to stick with him one more year. Beside with Pruitt out of his way I think he would be a lot better than he was last year. When you break down the games and look beyond the miscues of the offense his defenses were not that bad. Outside of the big 3 his defense was only allowing about 23 ppg and in today game of football that is not bad. If you look at it game by game when it came to points outside of the big 3 South Carolina - 27, Mizz. - 12, Kentucky - 20, Arkansas 24, Auburn - 23, Vandy - 17, A&M 34. That is an avg. of 22.4 our defense was not the problem. I might add my numbers come from what his defense let up not including J.G sucky play.
