Some fans have already labeled CJP just 8 games into the season, based on his actions to date. Assessment and opinions. My definitions are listed below for our previous coaches with CJP. What say you?

Kiffin --- Let's go out have fun at the the expense of the Volunteer Football Program. Defining Moment: Day he signed his Contract with Hamilton and got the USC pass.

Dooley --- Let's just outscore them and defense will take care of itself. We can do this with lower star ratings. Proper Showering technique and history will take care of it. Defining Moment --- Kentucky

Jones ---- Snake Oil, Showmanship, and we will out-talent everybody.
I am surprised that Jones did not punt from the 3 inch line against Oklahoma. His Defining moment.

Pruitt ---- Blue Collar Coach, Brutally honest, knows the requirements to play Championship Football. First Time HC prone to mistakes

Pretty good assessment actually!

Would only add Kiffin would put us on probation forever!

Jones' defining moment was losing to Vandy at home 2013 with a bowl game and those precious extra practices on the line. After that every step back was discernable from a mile away. But at that point posts just like this had a positive description of Jones.

Not that early. Butch was cooked when he lost to South Carolina in 2016.

Safe to assume Butch had many defining moments. Forgotten about the Vandy loss and SC loss. A lot to choose from.

Dooley's defining moment would be him voluntarily electing to have a hip procedure done during season so that he would coach a few games from the pressbox in a wheelchair (@ Miss St.) or on a cane or scooter on the sideline the following few games. I know health is important but IMO was a reflection of where his priorities were.

And was completely scorched a few weeks later in Nashville.
Yeah. The reason 2013 Vandy was too early is because, and this is embarrassing to admit, but that 2013 Vandy team was better on paper/more talented than 2013 Tennessee. It always sucks to lose to them, but that team went 9-4 and was simply better than us at that point, and that was just Butch's first year.

In contrast, the 2016 South Carolina and Vandy losses are some of the most inexcusable in the last 20 years of the program. The 2016 (and 2015) teams had the talent to go 10-2, perhaps 11-1, yet the 2016 team was actually lucky to finish 9-4 (App St and Georgia should have been losses).

He actually had a chance to slightly redeem missing Atl in Columbia had he finished in Vandy and made it to New Orleans. It wouldn't erase that terrible loss but going from the MCB to the Sugar Bowl would have cooled the flames some.
He should have been 10-2 at worse that year for sure. The east was there to take and he flopped.

I do like the OU 6 inch FG as a defining moment tho. That didn't get him fired but it was a very strong tell for what he was.

I’d say Butch’s defining moment was botching the 4th qtr of the 2015 Florida game.

Right on the heels of choking against Oklahoma late in the game, which he seemingly got a pass for at the time, and would have historically had he secured the Florida win that year.

So, I vote for the 2nd pulling the rug out from under us as the day the worm turned.

Crazy thing is that he still should have won that game despite kicking the FG at the 6-inch line. The fact he went for a FG there shouldn't have even mattered.

Butch actually consistently improved this team until the 2016 season. The 2015 season gave glimpses into what kind of tactical coach he was and I wondered if he was "the guy" during the 2015 season. Nonetheless, 2015 was still improvement over 2014, which was improvement over 2013. That 2015 team still had a lot of hallmarks of a team that was really good but "didn't know how to win," and in 2016 the hope was that they had learned how to win.

The team regressed in 2016, and in 2017 the bottom totally fell out.

Choking the game against Oklahoma was proof Butch was too conservative to be coaching in the SEC.

Losing to Florida on a last second Hail Mary, was the final straw for me.

Oh it wasn't that it cost him the game. It just personified him in every way going forward. It was the beginning of "who are you (in general) to question my decisions?"

That later turned into "why isn't everyone satisfied with 9-4 and the MCB trophy".

He couldn't reach the bar so he tried to lower it. Then expected everybody to grateful for the accomplishment.

OMG! Let it go guys..........this has been visited, discussed, debated, measured, compared, pro/con, analysed, did I say discussed to the point of nausea. Ok, everyone in Volnation knows the trials and tribulations of UT's coaching carousel.........restating facts and opinions in a different font or style does not make this a new.............geesh, get over it.

Cute.....I doubt this topic will ever die until we put a product on the field that wins consistantly.

As far as this thread goes just look around...plenty to choose from and some questioning the hire of CJP..

If you are policing up threads you got a lot work...
