Pretend you're a booster

I am rich, the way it counts, with family, friends and church and God. But if I had a go-zillion dollars I would make Urban Meyer tell me why he should not be the head coach at Tennessee in 2021 and beyond. Maybe he should keep Pruitt as DC it might save me a few bucks.

If I was a billionaire, I would do it on one condition, I get to be on the search committee. I would then make every single big name head coach in P5 tell me to go away. Then I would start making offers. We need a proven winner at a high level.

If I was a billionaire, I would gladly pay millions to see us back at the top before I die.

Also I would pay good money to make the woo in rocky top go away.

If i was a billionaire we'd have the best recruiting class every year

He would be my #1 choice.

I remember telling some OSU fans over brunch (back in '12) what they were getting with UM. I told them he will bring SEC speed to the Big 10 and dominate...which he did.

I think if Tennessee wants to dine at the big boy table they're going to have to make a commitment that so far they've never been willing to make. These teams that are kicking their teeth in every year have certain advantages over us. You got to level the playing field and Tennessee to this point hasn't shown that type of commitment. That's why the big names will not risk coming here and being at a disadvantage to the teams they're trying to beat. It's not that guys won't come here because it's impossible to win, It's just extra hard..

If I was the one negotiating, my position would be “we’ll pay you to win,” i.e per win. Say, a $1M base so you and your family can eat. Then, maybe $1M per SEC win and maybe $500k for each non-conference win. Bonuses for all coaches per win, maybe 10 percent of salary. Plus, solid bonuses for HC and all coaches for division championship, SEC championship, NC, etc.

In other words, break the cycle of madness of rewarding failure. Break the mold. “Take us to the top and we’ll make you and your staff the richest college football coaches in America.”

Brohm is a done deal, nah he's not, whispers of Schiano drop on a Sunday and Volnation ties him to Penn state to make themselves feel warm and fuzzy to overthrow the hire because its not Stoops, Gruden, or Urban.

Tbh I'm willing to bet you all that the average boomer UT booster doesn't know who Brohm, Stoops, Gruden or Meyer (to a degree) are coaches. I've been to one of these booster donor super meetings.....they're not with the times at all. Why pass when you can run? They want a coach to run that T-Formation all day every day. Who needs five star quarterbacks?! We need five star fullbacks!!! Give them a choice between a QB who can throw 70 yards standing, or a bellcow back, they'll choose the back every time. Also a lot of, "back in my day......" talk.

That's why they keep hiring these para-militaristic little men to run the team. They all have 1950s haircuts, bark a lot, "run the ball", etc.

If I’m a booster like Haslam. I’m tired of pissing away good money after bad and would make donations contingent on the University hiring a select group of candidates. Otherwise I’m not playing ball.

Imagine you are a booster for a moment....Your last name is Haslam or Anderson or something halfway recognizable to the fan base. In 08 Fulmer finally slips enough and booster start cutting checks to go a different direction, they bring Kiffin in, less than a year later he skips town and you realize the administration wasn't smart enough to tie a large buy out to him. In a rush to save the recruiting class they bring in a thoroughbred last name with an average to below average record to lead your team, the administration has botched it, he is pampas and arrogant with nothing to back it up, fails after his time is up and the same administration comes calling for cash again, you cut the check, they are on a plane to get Gundy a raise, Strong leaves them stranded in Louisville coming back empty handed and in steps a snake oil salesman full of one liners and hope. His time comes to an end without significant improvement and a decision is made, again you cut the check.....now comes a story about an AD who cant be reached, we have a quirky pirate on the line, no now theyre at Doren at NC State, nah hes staying, Brohm is a done deal, nah he's not, whispers of Schiano drop on a Sunday and Volnation ties him to Penn state to make themselves feel warm and fuzzy to overthrow the hire because its not Stoops, Gruden, or Urban......chaos ensues, the AD gone, the country laughing at us, and now a former coach the same one you wrote a check to remove in 2008 is making the hire and we are down to Coordinators because no one else wants a part of the clown show. ...... so back to your last name and that check book....do you mind taking it out for one more check....we'll get our guy this time, you can trust ole Phil. Now belly up to the bar we just need a few million from each of you.

Yep, here’s $10 mil, now go get Art Briles or Hugh Freeze on the next plane to Ktown

I'd ask Urban Meyer how much he needs to coach Tennessee for 5 years. I would hope to get him for $10M but would go to $20M.

And in so doing sacrifice my soul to the devil.

I know someone on here mentioned a gofund me for buy out , funded by volnation and other vol fans. I think we may be surprised how much we could raise? I am pretty much over Pruitt, possibly give him next year and that is it.

If I had the kind of money it takes to be a decision making booster? Let's just say there are several people over there thankful that I do not.

Great. Under your comp plan, UT would be paying a coach $7 Million to go 8-4 (4-4 in the SEC). I don't think so.

If I was a big time booster. I wouldn't be in coaching hires, fires, access outside of my private suite, parking, beautiful college escorts when I arrive in the area, quality catering in my suite. I would however, let the University know. They only get my money when we finish top 3 in the east. Any lower, just enough to hold my my suite until then. To simulate their desire to ensure the best outcome. For every higher ranking in the east, sec champs, NCs. Those donating levels would be substantial increases. If it's 250k to have the suite, then finishing top 3 gets a million, top 2, 3 million, win the east, 10 million, national championship game, 20 million, I don't care if they win, make it there, you've got a chance and that's enough reward.

I’d demand Urban Meyer or Hugh Freeze. Better to make a big upfront investment than go for a fourth budget bin failure.

Tell the admin it’s not negotiable and threaten to pull all future donations if they don’t get one of those done. If they fail I start funding ETSU.

Still, you must remember, most Bil-aires did not get to that level of money by being "lead by their hearts". Most are tough, hard, none emotional act people when it comes to their bottom line.
