Pure BS and classless.Simple, the perception is out there that Cuonzo was never accepted because he was black. If you listen to the sports talk shows on the radio, the callers who were African American complained that it wasn't his coaching that was unpopular, it was his race.
The majority of the D-1 prospects are black. Other coaches are going to go into their living rooms and say, "Do you really want to go there?"
True or not, perception is reality for a lot of people.
Pure BS and classless.
How is it classless to state the truth? Look at the players' tweets. Listen to African Americans who have called 99.1 over the past 3-4 months.
I didn't say that race was the reason most wanted rid of him. I just said that is how a certain segment of the population views it.
Heck, certain people still say that people only criticize Obama because he's black.
The race card is going to get played as long as it can be used to someone's advantage.
Its crazy to think that all of this had been going on behind the scenes and hardly anyone knew about it. I wouldn't be surprised if Cal offered him more money and a longer extension that UT didn't or couldn't match. The details of how this all came about will be interesting to say the least.
Congrats to Cuonzo. He'll do good at Cal.
