On this board, I see a lot of "hate" towards Waggner. People saying that he won't start. Waggner is one of the best DB's on the team and we surely start. I think a lot of people get caught up in 40 times instead of production. Last year was his first year starting and was very solid for us. Of course he made mistakes but he also made a bunch of very good plays.

Hate?
I'd call it 'Competition at the position'.

That's a good thing.

There is alot of hate for the guy here.

I am convinced that some of it is just bias against guys like him and Poole that didn't come in with 5* ratings and hype.

He doesn't have the raw talent to go to the next level. He may not be a starter even. But he will contribute for two huge reasons that can't be recorded on a stop watch. He's smart and instinctive.

I just don't see an open starting spot honestly. The two safety jobs are locked down by Jazen (If he comes back) and Brewer. One corner job will belong to Moore and that leaves the other starting job open.

He had a hell of a time at safety. However, he was pretty functional at corner.

I agree, it seems like sometimes as fans we don't show the players the respect they deserve. P. Wagner had some ups and downs last season but he showed some real potential. It's way to early to say he will or won't start. As a matter of fact I think he may have an edge over some of the other d.backs.

Waggner will be a starter.......Janzen if he returns.....Moore will prob. start but could be corner or saftety....Lanier is off the bench, Teague will beat him out at Corner.....My picks:

FS Janzen
SS Brewer
CB Waggner
CB Moore

2nd Option:

FS Moore
SS Janzen
CB Waggner
CB Teague

it was his tackling that has him looking over his shoulder, see jordan jefferson run first play lsu game... if he improves in that area he will prob play... coleman looked strong in spring and may overtake him, along with about six other capable freshmen.. we'll prob know by the ga game what his status is... starting or only playing in the nickel and dime?

Waggner has mediocre speed and isn't a physical tackler, but he makes up for it with his ball skills, his smarts and instincts on the field. He made some great plays last year with picks and tds but had some plays that hurt us. His two worst plays were the beginning of the LSU game where he made a pathetic excuse for a tackle against Jefferson and with less than a minute in the half left against UNC. He cost us 6 on both of those plays and they both came back to haunt us at the end.

If he improves his stregnth and speed he could definitely start.

Am I reading this correctly?

He got burned big a few times last year. I for one like Wagner and think he'll end up a pretty darn good player

I don't "hate" PW. But if you think the guy would EVER see the field barring injury to the first two strings on any of the more talented UT teams you are delusional. And that is the kind of talent it takes to win against the best of the SEC.

He is a good ball hawk which is about having good instincts but he needs to work on his tackling form and footwork. No hate here I still see him being a starter.

On balance, he was a real asset last year. He is a play maker. He makes mistakes like everyone does, but he played well. Whether he starts or not next year depends on him and his competition. Just stating the obvious.
