with the way that spring practice has went.. it's hard to tell who will start... the only guy who has stood out is Hancock.. So predict our top 5-6 WR's for the fall..
1)Kenny O-neal: This guy is our most ready to play WR from recruiting experts.. Fulmer doesnt get Juco guys who wont play
2)Quinton Hancock: He has emerged as our playmaker this spring.. The coaches were even saying that he could possibly be our #1 WR by the fall..
3)Brent Vinson: I just have the gut feeling about this one.. One of our Freshman WR's are going to impress bigtime.. With his speed and athleticism, he could end up being our deep threat guy.. Im not sure he will be the slot WR, but since he spent a year in Prep school i give him the edge over G. Jones.
4) Lucas Taylor: He has yet to proven he can hold on to the ball.. He could end up being a top 3 WR for UT but has yet to show it.. Everyone is waiting when hell step it up.
5) Gerald Jones: This is another gut feeling guess.. I could see him or Brent Vinson staring as the slot WR.. This guy could be our biggest playmaker on our team.. Well see how he develops.
6) Austin Rogers: He has good athleticism and skills, but he's another one who's had injuries.. I can see Rogers possibly getting bumped up as the season progresses.

I pretty much agree that these are our top 6 WRs, although I'm not sure in what order they will be.

1.) O'Neal
2.) Hancock
3.) Vinson
4.) This is a toss up. Taylor has yet to prove himself.

Briscoe is the best blocking WR on the team. He may get a start or two in the beginning of the year simply because he works his butt off on running plays.

Rogers has held this spot last year before he got mono.

Jones might be the best athlete on the team next year.

It's a crapshoot on the 4th spot. Will not know until the WRs get here this summer. But I think it is safe to say the top 3 will be the ones listed, unless Taylor or Briscoe really steps up.

I think Kenny O'Neal, Quintin Hancock, and Brent Vinson will see the most playing time, but don't forget about Ahmad Paige, the other heralded recruit coming in. He is a natural WR with great route-running skills, and I would expect him to play. Gerald Jones will also play at WR along with Eric Berry, he has playmaking skills you have to put on the field.

i dont think shelley will see much playing time.. he has had all the opportunities this spring and has done nothing to move up the depth chart.

I've met his old high school coach a few times here in Arkansas, and he's pretty confident Shelly could play.

I guess if he's not stepping up it could be another year.

if Shelley is going to get some playing time, this year will be his final shot. with the young WRs we have coming in, this is his best shot to move up the depth chart and get some looks. i just don't see it happening. I thought he could def. be a playmaker coming in, but he hasn't developed.

btw, where do you live at in arkansas, im moving to AR this summer?..

At the start of the '07 season the top 4 will be(no certain order): Rogers, Taylor, O'Neal, and Briscoe. I'm sure it will be a revolving door all season.

I don't think Ahmad Paige stands much of a chance at getting onto the field this year...he's a fine athlete, and I think he'll be a great receiver at UT, but he's 6-foot-3 and only 175lbs...he's going to need some time in the weight room before he hits the field.

I agree with the 6 except switch lucas Taylor with Gerald Jones. Lucas Taylor has not impressed me AT ALL. The dude has butter-fingers, im not tryin to dog the man but ITS TRUE. I truely think we should convert him to CB. That is a logical idea, if you have bad hands, WR is not for you. I played WR,discovered i didn't like taken hits, so the coach put me at Saftey and BAM, i shined at saftey. I mean sometimes you have to make change, and i think this is his best move.

I'll agree with the Ahmad Paige needs to put on weight. But i won't agree that he doesn't stand a chance of seeing PT. I have watched video on this kid and he is gonna be something special. The kid just has this great blend of balance and speed that you want in a WR, and he is also very allusive. People count him out, but forget that this kid is just as good a G. Jones and is probably a better WR than Jones. Don't forget Jones played mostly QB, Paige is a natural WR.

Josh Brisco?

I think UT starts 2 WR and 1 H-Back and 1 TE. I would guess Hancock and Taylor. Taylor loses the starting spot later in the season to Vinson when he learns the offense.

Vinson get up to speed LOL the kid is a two legged Cheetah, i can recall a HS kid this fast. Taylor starting :post-4-1090547912:, if Taylor starts im gonna cry. He couldn't catch a cold in Alaska, has a major case of butter-fingers.

I sure hope T Taylor has L Taylor on football catching machines until it knocks those butter-fingers OFF. Im really nervous about next season just because of the WRs, not one has shown he can go in a game and really compete. We really need to get these young kids to step up or get lost.

That was a metaphor for learning the offense.

If I remember Meachem couldn't catch the ball very well as a sophomore either and got a lot better by his junior year.

Coker and Hardesty lining up in the slot is one thing we will see due to the current state of our WR's. Before the newcomers arrive, Hancock is the only impressive WR. Briscoe, Rogers, Shelly and Taylor can be servicable but that is about it. Somebody suggested WR will be a revolving door all year. I completely disagree. We will have a lot of WR's that never see the field. Moving RB's into the slot and taking lumps with newcomers will be the trend next season. Hancock, Brown, Cottam, O'Neal, and Coker will probably be the 5 players with the most catches at the end of the season. Outside of those 5 there will be very few catches. Vinson will catch some hoemruns, but will not have very many catches until he has a year under Trooper. I expect Vinson to be a superstar by his sophomore year.

Yeah, we really leaned heavily on Lucas Taylor while Robert Meachem, Jayson Swain, and Bret Smith were here.

Meachem looks like crap for an entire year and then has one of the greatest WR seasons in UT history. But Lucas Taylor plays sparingly behind UT's best WR trio ever, apparently "doesn't impress", and there is no way he will ever be any good. This logic is dizzying.

Tee Martin never impressed me while Peyton Manning was at UT.

If the DT's have really woke up as Fulmer is claiming then the Vol season comes down to the WR position.

As for the guys coming in, we don't have any idea whether they'll be stars out of the gate or disappointments. We've definitely seen both.

It would have been alot easier had anyone else besides Hancock really stepped up. Taylor, Briscoe, Shelley, and Rogers all have the potential but who knows what their deal is? Shelley would have to be one of the bigger disappointments so far.

Does anyone have any idea how Ja'Kouri Williams has done? There's another good athlete that just doesn't seem to be able to find a niche.
