Rounding Up UT Players on Watch Lists

Reeves-Maybin-1.jpg

...Watch lists truly don’t hold much, if any, significance. A player does not have to be on the a watch list at any point to actually be a quarterfinalist, semifinalist, finalist or actually win any of these awards in most circumstances. So the point of sending out the watch lists is largely for publicity for the given award.

But there’s still some level of prestige in being put on the watch lists since it recognizes players who have played at a high level in the past or players that the committee expects to play well enough in 2016 to be in contention for the award...

Ray Guy (top punter):
Trevor Daniel

Rimington (top center):
Coleman Thomas

John Mackey (top tight end):
Ethan Wolf

Maxwell (top player in the nation):
Joshua Dobbs
Jalen Hurd

Bednarik (defensive player of the year):
Derek Barnett
Jalen Reeves-Maybin
Cam Sutton

Outland Trophy (best interior lineman)
Dylan Wiesman

Nagurski (best defensive player)
Derek Barnett
Jalen Reeves-Maybin
Cam Sutton

When is the last time we've had this many players on lists for so many awards?

So much anticipation - so much hype. I'm trying to remember if there was this much in 1998.

This could and should be a very special year. Ready for it to start so we can find out.

No, there wasn't this much hype in'98. The major hype was for the year before. 1998 was thought to be somewhat of a question mark or probably a step down from the success of previous seasons.

Is Eric Berry the last Vol to win an award (Thorpe)?

He should have won it twice. He got snubbed by Taylor Mays once if I'm not mistaken.

Cam Sutton

I think Darrin Kirkland Jr. should be listed here too probably instead of Cam because Sutton will be avoided at just about all costs.

I wouldn't expect to see too many passes come his way. Teams will try to pick on Foreman, Martin, or Moseley on the other side.

Like I sad in the other thread about Cam. They won't throw the ball his way. They will almost totally avoid throwing to his side of the field. How can you make plays & be a factor on an awards list if you ain't involved? Not of Cam's own fault but it's going to be the truth.

Teams will be throwing at Martin, Foreman, & Moselely. Plain & simple! Cam can't get the award if he's just guarding his man but not being involved in any/many plays. He might make a few tackles but his chances on defense are going to be very limited.

I hope you get what I'm trying to say & why I give Kirkland a better chance because he's all over the field just like JRM. Those two will create havoc all over the field.

If only, the problem is teams threw at Cam some last year and were calculated when they did. That won't change this year, Cam is a very good corner, lock down type where the ball does not go to his side? No, some of our opponents will have no problem going after him.

How many times did get get thrown at last season? I can tell you it was in the single digits in the regular season but rose to barely over double-digits after the bowl game.

You call that being thrown at? I think Cam ranked either 3rd or 4th CB the least thrown at in 2015. He either broke up the pass or intercepted it or the pass never got to its target near him.

We have a lot weaker corners on the other side of the ball. Can you not see or understand that? We are going to be attacked on the opposite side of the ball where he lines up 90%+ of the plays/time.

He can't make too many plays that way. His playmaking will come in the PR game. I can tell you right now every single team we play except for maybe Bama will stay the heck away from Mr. Sutton.

No, I don't get what you're saying and I'm not sure you do either.

That's because you don't know football I guess! Keep trying buddy! I'm tired of trying to explain something to you so easily to understand. I'm moving on from this topic. Geez! :eek:hmy:
