Eric Berry is a once in a lifetime player and has great stamina and talent. I would certainly rather err on the side of overusing him than under.

Also, one unmentioned factor is how excited the crowd would get if he gets in on punt returns/offense. That would be a great way to generate some excitement.

You should not attempt to use logic again. It doesn't suit you.

Jones played under the old clock rules where there were more plays per game than there are today. He played nearly every down on defense, a lot of snaps on offense, and special teams. Logically speaking, Jones almost certainly played more snaps in 2003 at this point than Berry has.

Still waiting on something that proves that theory. Based on stats alone, it seems unlikely that he did. He also didn't have ANY offensive statistics until his final season here. Someone that played A LOT of snaps on offense should have some type of stats like you claim. Keep trying though. BTW, there was another Jones that played at UT during that time. His name was Montrell Jones. I am beginning to wonder if some of you are mistaking the two.

Montrell Jones hardly ever saw the field and was eventually booted from the team and ended up back in Kentucky playing for Louisville, I'm not even sure he was still around during the Mark Jones days.

Didn't Pickens play both ways for a bit?

Not at the same time. He was switched over to safety in 1989 in mid-season(LSU game) and remained there that year. The next year he was back on offense. He also returned kickoffs. I don't recall him playing O and D in the same game.

Now, Bobby Majors played safety, wingback and returned punts all in same game. (Tim Priest played in the secondary with Bobby).

I said this in another thread, but if you're paranoid about injury, then you should probably just have Berry lateral to somebody else every time he gets an INT. Because, you know, you don't want him to get hurt.

The guy is a preternatural talent. If you can't figure out a way to get the ball in his hands five times a game, then you're not doing your job as the coach.

He actually had 22 receptions the last year he played. Both Montrell and Mark played during 01 and 02 when Montrell was on the team. Mark didn't even have offensive statistics until his last year.

Because he didn't even play offense until his last year!

What are we saving Berry for? I would rather see us go down fighting, not playing scared. Our best players should play. Berry is our best player. Get him on the field as much as possible, offense, defense, special teams, wherever he can make an impact.

No. I watched every game of Mark Jones' college career. He played more snaps then Berry does. Period.

I'm glad you are basing your clearly wrong assumptions on stats. He was an integral part of our defense and played nearly every defensive down in 2003. I know this because I watched every game. You should try it some time. Clearly, you did not as it seems you barely even know who he was.

However, after seeing the pathetic attempt to involve Berry on offense, I am now in agreement with you that we should just leave him on D.
