Here are some highlights from the first practice. http://blogs.knoxnews.com/knx/hooker/2009/03/quotes_and_highlights.html
*Tailback Montario Hardesty looks as fast as ever. He made one incredible cut that would have gone for a score in any game. Lennon Creer may be the speed back, but perhaps the speed difference isn't as profound as we all thought.
*Never have I seen a coaching staff spend as much time teaching players how to strip the football from a ball carrier. It worked when receiver Todd Campbell coughed it up and cornerback Dennis Rogan leapt onto the football.
*UT really needs Gerald Jones to blossom into a consistently explosive receiver. He looked like one when he put a spin move on Rogan and broke free for a big gain. One play later, Jones dropped a perfect pass.
*Time will tell if cornerback Brent Vinson's maturity can ever come close to reaching his talent level. The oft-troubled receiver made a sensational interception, rising over Jones and ripping the ball away. It was the best play of the day.
*Quarteback B.J. Coleman looked good early in practice. Then, Jonathan Crompton closed strong, looking more confident in this new system than he ever did last season.
