Unless I was tricked by someone evil, practice was cancelled tonight.

I was waiting at Haslam field around 6:30 for the gate to open, and an old man drove up in a UT truck and said Kiffin gave the boys the night off. Apparently, the coaching staff wanted them fresh for the scrimmage tomorrow.

I hope they make up that two-a-day practice since today was technically a single.

good decision by Kiffin. Give the kid's a break & keep em' fresh. Also gives em' a sorta team building activity

I asked Kiffin who the best bowler was on the team, but he said he'd have to watch the film before he got back to me on that.

I wasn't expecting to read this in that link. I'd like to see an Orange and Crimson game.

College Football Rules Changes for 2009

The NCAA changed a few rules for the 2009 football season. One of the biggest differences: There won't be any changes next year. The body decided to start changing rules biennially.

Some of the other changes:
--Teams can now both wear colored jerseys as long as the home team agrees and the home team's conference agrees that the colors are sufficiently contrasting. This was done because USC was penalized for wearing red at UCLA last season. The Trojans were penalized a timeout after the kickoff, and UCLA took one immediately following to even things

--Conferences will review video of certain plays deemed dangerous due to helmet contact and, if necessary, impose further punishment. If a player is ejected, the review is required. NCAA rules officials said this was done more to emphasize safety than because of any incidents from last season.

--Punters will lose special protection if they run outside of the tackle box before kicking the ball. This will apply to rugby-style punters, who will lose protection from roughing and running-into-the-kicker calls if they are more than 5 yards from either side of where the ball was snapped.

--Another rule change rewrote the offensive formation rule to limit backfield players to four, thus eliminating illegal-formation penalties if only 10 men are on the field. Previously, the rule was written to require seven players on the line of scrimmage.

--End-of-quarter penalties won't cause an extra play if the infraction results in a loss of down. <!-- STORY AD BEGINS HERE -->

I've got to say, bowling with the football players is quite an experience. I've bowled previously with Ben Martin, Chris Walker and Will Brimfield and I tell you I will never forget that. They were the only ones down there, then seemingly then entire class of '07 showed up (BJ Coleman, Dennis Rogan, Gerald Jones, Chris Donald and plenty more). They were all a riot, but I have to say that unless they have practiced they need to stick to football.

Possible outcomes/breakdowns if previous staff took the team bowling:

1. Would've worked like heck to knock the pins down.
2. Any group playing against Chavis would somehow roll gutterballs on the 1st roll, but would roll consistent strikes on 2nd roll.
3. Team tells freshmen they can bowl after Ryan Karl graduates.
4. Team reports several members of team suffer concussions when Arian Foster is unable to grip ball well and throws it across the alley.
5. Instead of rolling the ball all the way down the lane, the QB's would simply dump it off in the gutter.
6. Tim Tebow walks in and the damn pins just fall over.
7. Chris Simms, Josh Nunes, and Chris Leak were going to come bowl but decided to play Dance Dance Revolution instead.

Wonder if this is forced missed practice time as Slive said was dealt out as punishment to a team this summer.
