Brett Kendrick missed practice on Sunday but was back today.

Venzell Boulware was drawing some praise from Walt Wells, as well as Jack Jones. Drew Richmond looks like he’s taken some steps in the right direction and looked pretty good from what I saw.

Nigel Warrior, Todd Kelly, Micah Abernathy and Evan Berry all looked good in tracking drills. Freshmen Theo Jackson and Maleik Gray also showed some good athleticism.

Quinten Dormady did look really good and was easily the best of the bunch, but the rest of the quarterbacks had a bit of an off day, as way too many balls hit the ground. Jarrett Guarantano threw a couple of nice strikes, but he also had several overthrows on nine routes and post patterns.

Freshman wideout Joshua Palmer made a really grab adjustment to catch a seam route — only to get a talking to by Larry Scott for running the route wrong. Later, Palmer got an earful from Butch Jones about not planting his foot correctly during a slant route. Tennessee’s coaching staff clearly things highly of the freshman and is working closely to make him as ready as possible for the 2017 season.

Ty Chandler and Tim Jordan are solid receivers, but Trey Coleman might have the best hands of the bunch. He really just plucks the ball from the air.

Emmanuel Mosley and Quart’e Sapp remain in non-contact jerseys.

The offensive line remains shorthanded, but senior swingman Brett Kendrick was back out there and looked/moved just fine. During the center/exchange period, Coleman Thomas snapped with Guarantano, Jack Jones worked with Dormady and Riley Locklear snapped to Will McBride.

Interestingly, Shy Tuttle went through that drill work which was against pads, not other moving bodies. But it continues to show that Tuttle's progress keeps moving in the right direction.

Nigel Warrior certainly looks the part. He did last year as a freshman too, but now as a sophomore and in full pads, he gives off an Eric Berry-like vibe with the way he’s built. I’m not saying he will be as good as Berry ever was, but Warrior is just built like him is all.

Freshman running back Ty Chandler looks much bigger in pads than he does out of them. He still could use to add a little weight, but he looks much more like an SEC running back in full pads than he did earlier in the fall.

Tyler Byrd flashed more in today’s practice than I’ve seen so far all of fall camp. Byrd hasn’t had a bad fall camp by any means, but he looked solid today and showed why he’s definitely a lead contender for one of the Vols’ three main receiver spots.

Freshman Theo Jackson could make some noise at safety this year. Jackson was third in line behind Todd Kelly Jr. and Nigel Warrior during safety drills today. That doesn’t necessarily reflect the depth chart currently, but he did look strong and athletic on the field during drills today.

Kendrick joined redshirt sophomore tackle Drew Richmond, junior guard Jack Jones, redshirt sophomore guard Venzell Boulware, senior center Coleman Thomas and redshirt freshman lineman Devante Brooks in handling the majority of the work on the offensive line during the early periods of Tuesday’s practice.

Speaking of the safeties, sophomore Nigel Warrior led the line on Tuesday, going through every drill first, and Shoop continues to be very complimentary of the Tennessee legacy during individual drills.

We’ll see what Jones has to say after Tuesday’s practice, but the slivers of practice open to media seemed to show a passing game still putting too many balls on the ground in routes-on-air or pat-and-go drills.

Quinten Dormady was paired with the redshirt freshman Brooks, Jarrett Guarantano was with Thomas and Will McBride worked with freshman Riley Locklear, who previously was getting some work at guard this preseason, while redshirt freshman Ryan Johnson continues to get work at center as well.

Middle linebackers Darrin Kirkland Jr. and Daniel Bituli continue to move very well during individual drills, and both look more than ready to resume team drills, if they've not begun them already.

Linebacker Quart'e Sapp and cornerback Emmanuel Moseley remain in green non-contact jerseys.

I realize it's been against "air" which means absolutely nothing in the grand scheme of things, but I have not seen the speed, explosiveness in and out of routes, hands etc. that these receivers have displayed in many years. If they can take what they have shown in practice, to game days in the fall, UT will once again make a valid case for WRU, and we will be very happy with the passing game.

Dormadys throwing motion and throwing style reminds me a lot of Jay Cutler, the way he hold the ball rather low and really whips the ball in. Hopefully he doesn't reflect cutlers proneness to throw picks, but I like what i see! #gunslinger

I like what I see too. He reminds me of Casey Clausen in the way of being decisive and accurate...ball gets out of his hand very quickly...

Pleasantly surprised to hear this. I believe Coleman is our biggest RB by weight. If he has good hands, too, may see the field sooner than later.
