From espn.com

The head of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, which monitors diversity in the NFL, expects the league to institute a rule where players would be penalized 15 yards for using the N-word on the field.

Great, games will now be 5 hours long because each team will have 300 yards in penalties.

This is so stupid, many players throw that word around loosely (they shouldnt, but they do). And if they're going that route, why just the N word then?

Yet we still have a team named that can be taken offensively with Native Americans. I don't get the world.

PC world , everybody has feelings and you can't say anything. Everyone gets a participation trophy and snacks after every practice and game. Racists are stupid, but where does the nonsense in sports and life in general stop? Pretty soon, all interaction between people will be banned for fear of offending one another.

Overreact much?

I'm not opposed to it, but I fear the complications of implementing it.

For one, Who's to say a ref can tell a players voice vs an opposing fan's voice?

As another poster stated, does this also go for coaches? .....will other obscenities be far behind.

Cleaning up the language on the field isn't some topic worthy of outrage though.

As uptight as the league is about player celebrations and other absurd details as sock height. I'm surprised it took them this long to go in this direction, as the mics from NFL Films and the networks tend to pick up everything.

You gotta admit it would be kind of funny watching the ref squirm and try to explain the penalty.

Great post.

I don't think this rule will go over well. Not because of pc sensitivity, but for enforcement.

How easy will it be for a ref to flag the wrong guy. Or misunderstand what someone said while trash talking someone else in a stadium full of loud fans. Or flagging someone for speech infraction in the final seconds of the game during a crucial drive? That will go over like Osama Bin Laden singing the national anthem.

There's no oversight. They can't huddle together to discuss like they can pass interference or incomplete passes. There's no camera evidence that fans can see like illegal formations or late hits on the qb. It's gonna be what one ref heard with no means to support it. And then you'll have players disputing that they said it.

I get the criticism about participation trophies but, correct me if Im wrong, you are also against snacks and (heaven forbid) drinks after practice? Thats cold blooded right there.
